Overview of Position

The Statutory Reporting Accountant supports the preparation of statutory financial statements and regulatory filings for insurance entities. This role helps ensure compliance with NAIC and Statutory Accounting Principles (SAP), while contributing to the accuracy and timeliness of legal entity reporting. This position also supports audits, regulatory examinations, and internal stakeholders through collaboration and attention to detail.

What will be my duties and responsibilities in this job?

  • Assist in preparing quarterly and annual NAIC statutory financial statements (Yellow Book / Blue Book).

  • Assist in drafting the annual Management Discussion & Analysis (MD&A), quarterly statutory analysis packages, and other narrative reports.

  • Ensure data accuracy and compliance with SAP, state insurance department regulations, and internal policies.

  • Assist with payment requests and state filings for insurance entities.

  • Assist with statutory guidance change management.

  • Maintain compliance with all required regulatory filings and fees; escalate issues as needed.

  • Assist in managing a large calendar of deliverables and deadlines.

  • Support analysis of statutory-to-GAAP differences and preparation of reconciliation schedules.

  • Assist in monitoring key performance indicators and support financial data integrity.

  • Record statutory journal entries and reconcile general ledger accounts.

  • Support compliance with SOX and MAR requirements.

  • Assist in ensuring the team meets all deadlines and deliverables in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Support external audits and state insurance department examinations.

  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives and system enhancements.

  • Assist in identifying and supporting best practices to improve efficiency and accuracy.

  • Collaborate with internal teams across the enterprise to gather data for statutory schedules, exhibits, note disclosures, and other key regulatory filings.

  • Support accounting system enhancements, automation initiatives, and process improvements.

What are the requirements needed for this position?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; equivalent experience may be considered.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Solid accounting foundation with knowledge of SAP and/or GAAP

  • Familiarity with NAIC statutory reporting requirements and insurance regulatory frameworks

  • Proficiency in enterprise tools such as Oracle, Power BI, Sovos Statutory Reporting, Alteryx, Workiva, and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Familiarity with emerging AI tools to support automation and reporting accuracy

  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, complex formulas, and data analysis

  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail

  • Effective time management and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to perform independent research

  • Strong oral and written communication skills for effective collaboration

  • Results-oriented mindset with focus on continuous improvement

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively across departments

  • Adaptability to evolving regulatory requirements and accounting standards

Previous Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in insurance accounting.
  • Experience with quarterly and annual statutory and regulatory reporting is preferred.

What other skills/experience would be helpful to have?

  • CPA license would be preferred
