Assistant Manager (Continuing Professional Development) (2 Year Contract)

SILE oversees the mandatory Continuing Professional Development (“CPD”) scheme for lawyers in Singapore, under which lawyers must obtain a certain number of CPD Points per year through undertaking eligible learning activities. Our team ensures lawyers meet their CPD requirements, manages the accreditation process for conferences, seminars and other events attended by lawyers, and supports the review, development, and implementation of policy governing the CPD scheme. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the legal profession in Singapore.
The role is well suited to legally trained professionals, including foreign-qualified lawyers, and law graduates, or other professionals with experience in policy, adult learning or curriculum development.
Responsibilities:
Your main duties in the Continuing Professional Development (‘CPD’) department will include:
- Managing communications with lawyers and legal professionals, including handling queries and feedback, promoting understanding and awareness of the CPD scheme and compliance with requirements, and spearheading engagement to elicit feedback and gather data
- Overseeing the accreditation application process and liaising with course providers and legal professionals seeking accreditation of the activities they conduct
- Assisting in the coordination and supervision of CPD for the profession, including identification of any gaps in coverage of key competencies and developing or co-developing courses or materials to fill the same, monitoring cost and availability of courses
- Supporting the Director of CPD in various exercises, such as annual compliance audits, processing of applications for waivers of requirements, preparation of reports, and planning and implementation of new initiatives
- Supporting the work of the committees responsible for the CPD scheme
Other ad hoc duties will be assigned, and you will also be expected to take on other functions within the Institute.
Requirements:
- Excellent command of English
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with ability to engage with stakeholders from different backgrounds
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to translate insights into actionable recommendations
- Meticulous and detailed, with a strong work ethic
- Proactive, independent and resourceful
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel
- Degree in law, or a strong degree in a related field
- Experience in the legal profession or in policy, adult learning or curriculum development would be beneficial
