We are seeking a collaborative and skilled veterinarian to join our Large Animal Science and Technology Team in Gothenburg, Sweden. As part of the Animal Science and Technology (AST) department, you will play a pivotal role in advancing in vivo models to support our groundbreaking drug discovery and development projects.

This role is ideal for a veterinarian who combines clinical veterinary expertise with a passion for scientific research. We are looking for someone who can collaborate effectively, drive innovation, and adopt a forward-thinking approach to enhance our in vivo capabilities—all while prioritizing the highest standards of animal welfare.

What You’ll Do

As part of the AST team, you will:

  • Drive Innovation: Develop cutting-edge in vivo models and methodologies, including those for emerging drug modalities such as cell therapies, as a member of multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Surgical Expertise: Participate in surgeries involving pigs and rodents, contributing to the development of new surgical models that advance medicine development.

  • Study Leadership: Act as a study director, responsible for the design, planning, execution, and reporting of in vivo studies during the early phases of drug development.

  • Promote Animal Welfare: Champion animal training, welfare, and the 3Rs (replacement, reduction, and refinement) in collaboration with other AST scientists.

  • Share Knowledge: Publish posters, presentations, and peer-reviewed articles while contributing to the professional development of AstraZeneca’s in vivo scientists.

Essential Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must have:

  • A degree in Veterinary Medicine

  • Proficiency in veterinary clinical work and surgery or anesthesia

  • A documented scientific record (e.g., Ph.D.)

  • Strong communication skills with fluency in English

Desirable Qualifications

We would be especially excited to see candidates with:

  • A relevant post-graduate laboratory animal qualification (e.g., Dip ECLAM, ACLAM, or CertLAS)

  • Expertise in the development, validation, and execution of laboratory animal models within a pharmaceutical or academic setting

  • Knowledge of Swedish and EU regulatory requirements for in vivo research

  • Experience working in AAALAC-accredited facilities

  • A strong track record of scientific publications
