Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and driven Automation and Controls Engineering Technician to design, implement, and optimize control systems that enhance manufacturing processes and drive operational excellence. This role serves as a key technical resource, collaborating with department managers to improve both new and existing processes in terms of capability, efficiency, and productivity.
The ideal candidate will leverage data-driven decision-making and root cause analysis to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and support production teams in achieving measurable performance gains. In addition to technical responsibilities, this role involves end-to-end project management—from initial concept through execution—ensuring alignment with project timelines, goals, and cross-functional collaboration.

Essential Job Functions:
- Identify and conceptualize manufacturing improvements to address business needs and enhance operational performance.
- Develop innovative automation and control solutions through process analysis, applying knowledge of product and process design, consulting with suppliers, and gathering input from production operators.
- Prepare cost justifications and obtain necessary approvals for capital expenditures and improvement initiatives.
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate project implementation, delivering measurable results in key areas such as safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
- Partner with department managers to drive continuous improvement in process capability, operational efficiency, and overall productivity.
- Leverage data-driven decision-making and root cause analysis to identify performance gaps and implement sustainable improvements.
- Promote a collaborative team environment, fostering open communication, cross-functional cooperation, and alignment with individual, department, and company goals—while operating effectively in a unionized workforce.
- Support the development and implementation of training programs to improve production flow, enhance safety practices, and help establish production parameters aligned with quality and output goals.
- Act as a technical resource to support world-class performance across all manufacturing metrics, including safety, quality, productivity, and housekeeping.
- Collaborate closely with maintenance and engineering teams, providing controls expertise for new equipment, tooling installations, and modifications to ensure consistency with plant standards and integration requirements.
Requirements for success:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience will be considered.
- Project Management: Proven ability to plan, lead, and execute technical projects, including timelines, budgets, and cross-functional coordination.
- Process Improvement: Training or working knowledge in ISO standards, continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma), and root cause analysis.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with measuring tools, blueprint reading, and general manufacturing processes.
- Computer Skills: Computer proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and basic drafting or CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
- Communication & Teamwork: Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including engineering, maintenance, and operations.
- Experience: Prior experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment is required, with hands-on involvement in automation or controls systems.
