Overall Purpose of The Job
The Catering Crew Culinary Assessor shall:
- Ensure that the catering crew destined to join a managed vessel is fully competent and qualified for the position and familiar with the dietary expectations of the seafarers on board.
- Ensure POMI, OHTC and Oceanic work harmoniously in the recruitment, screening, competency assessment, selection and mobilization of the catering crew.
- Monitor and administrate the pool of catering crew with focus on competency, attitude, professionalism, and past performance.
- Support the development of the catering crew through career development plans with emphasis on the development of Messmen to Cooks through the Messman Development Program.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
- Conducts competency assessment of new and existing catering crew.
- Evaluates and challenges dietary expertise of ships cooks.
- Screens and selects potential crew for possible vessel assignment and schedules.
- Monitors the performance of individuals by coordinating with Oceanic operations and HSEQ department, vessel evaluations and available date in systems.
- Analyses training needs based on trainee, client and Oceanic feedback.
- Ensures Oceanic career development plans are followed.
- Conducts Pre-departure Briefing for embarking catering crew. And schedules briefings with Oceanic representatives.
- Maintains catering crew ashore file with their personal updated data into the shipshure crew system and LMS.
- Maintains catering crew bio-data for future reference by making use of available systems.
- Debriefs all disembarking catering crew.
- Builds a strong link between the training centre, on board catering team, crewing department and the Oceanic operations department.
- Ensures a total of 25 Messman get promoted to chef cook every year.
- Keeps a good and professional relation with planning managers and higher management of Northsea marine services, Kestrel, and Pacific Ocean Manning.
- Provides the highest standard of customer service and customer care.
- Is conversant with the company’s safety & quality policy, its objectives, and the duties / obligations this job description carries within the company.
- Meets and continuously improves performance targets.
- Practices and promotes environmental awareness

- Savvy Hotel and Catering background and managerial skills.
- Must have the highest personal integrity standards, must have a positive outlook and be a self motivated with potential to develop and progress.
- Must possess a good command of the English language.
- Must be able to cooperate well with others, be a team player and work in tight schedules
- One year managerial experience.
