Chess Instructors Wanted - Fall Session

Beginner Chess Instructor
$50-$70/hour

MarinChess is hiring enthusiastic and reliable chess instructors to teach beginner-level chess to elementary and middle school students in the Southern Bay Area. As an instructor, you’ll help students build critical thinking, strategy, and problem-solving skills in a supportive and engaging environment. Our sessions run once a week for 6-12 weeks, with each class lasting one hour. We require a commitment of at least one school semester.

What We’re Looking For:

• Strong understanding of chess fundamentals (minimum ELO 1000 preferred but not required).
• Passion for teaching and inspiring young minds through chess.
• Excellent communication and classroom management skills.
• Ability to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
• Reliable transportation and ability to commute to schools in Santa Clara.
• Experience working with children in group settings (teaching, coaching, tutoring, or mentoring is a plus).

Responsibilities:

• Lead fun, structured, and educational chess lessons following MarinChess curriculum guidelines.
• Foster a positive and encouraging atmosphere where students of all skill levels feel supported.
• Manage classroom dynamics effectively and ensure an inclusive learning space.
• Provide individualized guidance and support to students as needed.
• Serve as an ambassador for MarinChess, maintaining strong relationships with schools and parents.
