The Opportunity

The Saskatchewan Firearms Office (SFO) is responsible for supporting safe communities by managing the ownership, purchase, movement and use of firearms within the province through the administration of federal firearms legislation and the Saskatchewan Firearms Act.

The SFO is seeking a motivated, organized, and client-focused Client Services Clerk to join the Client Services Branch. This position plays a central role as a frontline representative of the SFO, assisting the public, stakeholders, and partner organizations with firearms-related inquiries and services.

What You Will Do

As a Client Services Clerk, you will:

  • Provide timely, accurate, and professional assistance to the public regarding:

    • The Saskatchewan Firearms Verification and Appraisal System (FVA); and

    • Other provincial firearms programs and services delivered by the SFO.

  • Respond to inquiries in person, over the phone, and through email with tact, diplomacy, and attention to detail.

  • Support relationship-building with Indigenous and Métis organizations, working within the frameworks established in Memorandums of Understanding between the SFO and these partners.

  • Enter, update, retrieve, and verify information using various software programs and databases with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Maintain manual and electronic filing systems, records, databases, and tracking tools in accordance with ministry standards and privacy requirements.

  • Prepare, format, and proofread correspondence, forms, and reports.

  • Receive, sort, and distribute mail and documents.

  • Operate and maintain office equipment, including multi-line telephone systems, printers, scanners, and photocopiers.

  • Represent the SFO at tradeshows and public events

  • Perform additional administrative duties to support efficient branch operations.

  • Proficiency with computer hardware and software, including data entry, word processing, email, and electronic record keeping.
  • The ability to manage sensitive information with discretion, sound judgment, and confidentiality.
  • A commitment to professionalism, integrity, and the values of the Saskatchewan public service.
  • Knowledge of firearms and licensing (types, classifications, models, etc).

Qualifications

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position are obtained through:

  • Completion of an Office or Business Education program; or
  • An equivalent combination of administrative training and experience in a client-service environment.
  • Experience working with Indigenous or Métis organizations is considered an asset.

Conditions of employment must be met to complete probation in this position:

  • Possession and Acquisition License (PAL) or Restricted Possession and Acquisition License (RPAL), current and valid;
  • Successful completion of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course and/or Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course;
  • A current and valid driver’s license; and
  • Obtain a heightened security clearance (RCMP enhanced reliability security clearance), criminal record check, and background checks.
