Cummins Cederberg is seeking an engineering intern to join its R&D team in the coastal engineering domain, contributing to the development of novel data analytical tools and concepts. The firm welcomes applicants with backgrounds in one or more of the following disciplines: applied or theoretical physics, oceanography, ocean engineering, coastal engineering, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, computer science, or data science. The ideal candidate will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to identify limitations and technology gaps in coastal and environmental engineering, assess new concepts, develop software, analyze data from field systems, and evaluate potential user-friendly, interactive solutions for clients. The ability to clearly communicate results to diverse audiences, including peers and non-technical teams, is essential.
- PREFERRED SKILLS
Broad understanding of fundamental physical principles in coastal/ocean/meteorology
Experience manipulating large data sets
Computational modeling
Experience with parallel computing and high-performance computing (HPC) systems
Strong quantitative and problem-solving skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
A desire to grow both intellectually and professionally
Strong organizational abilities
Ability to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team of scientists and engineers
Experience in technical writing and assisting with peer-reviewed publications
- QUALIFICATIONS
BS/MS student in physics, ocean sciences, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, mechanical engineering, ocean engineering, computer science or related technical field.
Ability to program in Python, MATLAB, etc.
Experience with implementing machine learning models for image analysis, signal processing, etc.
Experience with developing and deploying toolboxes and toolkits.
