The Opportunity

A rare, fixed term opportunity is available to join the General and Subspecialty Paediatrics team at Waikato Hospital in Aotearoa New Zealand to cover six months sabbatical leave.

We seek a general paediatrician to join our dedicated group of clinicians committed to delivering excellent care for tamariki/children across the Waikato region. The role includes participation in the oncall roster and involvement in general paediatric outpatient clinics.

Our service places high value on equity-focused care, excellence in paediatric practice, strong team-based collaboration, and the teaching and development of junior doctors.

Applicants must hold, or be eligible to apply for, vocational registration in Paediatrics with the Medical Council of New Zealand.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Efficient and effective assessment and management of patients that follow accepted professional guidelines
  • Research and study relating to the treatment of a specific patient
  • Clinical advice and support to other staff
  • Investigative and treatment procedures carried out within organisational policies and guidelines
  • Provide verbal advice to GPs who telephone for assistance
  • Reading and responding to patients referral letters
  • Community health promotion activities
  • On call duties

About You

We welcome applications from newly qualified or experienced Paediatricians who have completed advanced Paediatrics training in a comparable health system. You will hold, or be eligible to apply for, vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
