Curtin University is seeking a Data Governance Specialist to join our team and play a pivotal role in shaping and embedding our university-wide data governance framework. Reporting to the Director, Data and Information Governance, this role will support the development and implementation of strategy, policies, and processes that ensure the integrity, accuracy, and quality of our data assets.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assist in the development and implementation of Curtin’s data governance framework, strategy, policies, and standards.
  • Champion a strong data culture across the university where data integrity, accuracy, and consistency are valued and understood.
  • Develop and manage data governance documentation, including data catalogues, definitions, processes, and quality metrics.
  • Conduct data maturity assessments and drive initiatives to improve data management capability across the university.
  • Build collaborative relationships with data owners, stewards, and subject matter experts to define and meet data and insight needs.
  • Perform data quality management, profiling, classification, and metadata management.
  • Map data lifecycles and assess data quality thresholds and events across user journeys.
  • Provide expert data advisory services and troubleshoot data issues.
  • Collaborate with Digital and Technology Services to embed data governance in our AWS environment.
  • Design and deliver training to improve data literacy across the university.
  • Maintain and regularly review data process maps in collaboration with system owners and SMEs.
  • Work closely with the Privacy Officer to align data governance with privacy and responsible information sharing requirements (PRIS).

Role Requirements:
  • As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
