Data Research Associate - Planning, Funding And Outcomes
  • Permanent, full-time position based in Takapuna
  • Support groundbreaking lung cancer screening research with national impact
  • Help drive equitable health outcomes for Māori and priority populations through high-quality data and research
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to 5 million New Zealanders.

We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.

Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible and innovative care.

About the Role

As a Data Research Associate, you will be a key part of Te Oranga Pūkahukahu, the Lung Cancer Screening Research Team, providing high-quality data analysis, research support, and guidance across a wide range of screening projects.

You'll design and support data projects, extract and analyse datasets, contribute to research publications, and ensure data integrity and governance are upheld throughout the research lifecycle. You will also help develop data collection tools, study manuals, quality assurance processes, indicator definitions, and research data management plans.

Working closely with project teams, Māori Health Pipeline staff, software developers, and research partners, you'll play an important role in supporting equitable research outcomes — particularly for Māori and Pacific communities — by ensuring robust, safe, and culturally aligned data practices.

This is a fantastic role for someone passionate about research, data, equity and improving lung cancer outcomes across Aotearoa.

About you

You are analytical, detail-focused and passionate about supporting high-quality clinical research through strong data capability. You're comfortable working with complex health datasets and enjoy collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • A Master's degree in a relevant discipline
  • Proficiency in data analysis and analytical software
  • Experience working with clinical research or clinical data, including handling patient information
  • Experience using clinical data collection tools such as REDCap
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Knowledge of clinical or research systems
  • Experience in Māori-led or Pacific-led research
  • Public health or screening-related research experience
  • Research management experience
