In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority, (Island Health) patient safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Manager Medical Staff Administration and Relations, the Data Support/Administrative Assistant provides confidential data entry and administrative services to support the regional medical staff structure of the health service delivery area to meet the goals and objectives of Island Health.
Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to high school graduation, successful completion of post-secondary business courses and three to five (3 - 5) of progressively responsible administrative experience in a health care environment.
Skills And Abilities
- Working knowledge of medical terminology is required.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and a customer service focus with medical and health authority staff, professional affiliates and the public.
- Ability to work effectively independently and collaboratively as a member of a team.
- Ability to act with tact and diplomacy under the work pressures of change, time and pace.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to perform confidential administrative support in a professional manner.
- Demonstrated ability to provide detailed, accurate and timely data entry.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to work independently.
- Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook as well as Sharepoint and database software.
- Ability to gather background material and data for development of special projects and reports.
- Demonstrated ability to record and transcribe meeting minutes precisely.
- Understanding of the inter-relationship among administration, medical staff and the assigned area's programs and services.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
