Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Dental Office Assistant to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will provide administrative and clinical support within a busy dental practice, ensuring smooth daily operations and excellent patient care. This role requires strong organizational skills, familiarity with dental and medical office procedures, and the ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently. Prior experience with electronic medical records and dental software such as Dentrix is highly preferred. The Dental Office Assistant will play a vital role in maintaining a welcoming environment for patients while supporting the clinical team.
Responsibilities
- Greet and check-in patients, ensuring a positive experience from arrival to departure
- Manage appointment scheduling, cancellations, and follow-up communications
- Prepare patient charts and update electronic medical records accurately
- Assist with patient intake, including collecting insurance information and medical histories
- Support clinical staff with sterilization, instrument preparation, and chairside assistance as needed
- Handle billing, coding, and insurance claims processing using Dentrix or similar software
- Maintain compliance with health regulations and infection control protocols
- Support human resources functions such as onboarding new staff or interns when necessary
- Manage inventory of dental supplies and order materials as required
- Ensure the reception area remains organized, clean, and welcoming
Experience
- Prior dental office experience is highly desirable; familiarity with Dentrix or other dental management software is preferred
- Experience working in medical or healthcare settings, including hospitals or nursing environments, is advantageous
- Knowledge of medical terminology, electronic medical records (EMR), and billing procedures is beneficial
- Supervisory or leadership experience in healthcare or administrative roles is a plus
- Background in human resources or managing staff schedules can be valuable
- Experience with budgeting or financial management within a healthcare setting is beneficial
