Job Location: Brownsville, TX (Rio Grande LNG Project)
Wage/Hour Status: Starting at $30.00 per hour (commensurate with experience)
Shift: Approximately 11 hours per day and may include day or night schedules
Reports to: Direct Supervisor/Superintendent
Coordinates w/: Direct Supervisor/Superintendent
This is a project-based assignment anticipated to last approximately one (1) year.
Position Summary:
The Electrical Apprentice will support licensed electricians in maintaining and troubleshooting electrical systems associated with Deep Soil Mixing (DMM) operations on a large-scale heavy civil LNG construction project. This position involves preventive maintenance, generator and motor support, temporary power systems, and coordination around heavy equipment operations in a high-production environment.
Project Overview:
The role supports DMM installation operations at the Rio Grande LNG project. The project is a major heavy civil LNG development, with Bechtel serving as the primary contractor. Operations include generators, 4-axle DMM rigs, excavators, cranes, forklifts, compressors, and other support equipment. Work shifts are approximately 11 hours and may include day or night schedules. Key Responsibilities:
- Assist electricians with preventive maintenance of generators, motors, and electrical panels.
- Support troubleshooting of electrical issues under supervision.
- Assist in installation and maintenance of temporary power distribution systems.
- Inspect and help maintain motors associated with DMM equipment and auxiliary systems.
- Perform basic testing of circuits, connections, and grounding systems.
- Assist with cable management, repair of connectors, and replacement of damaged components.
- Support lighting installation and maintenance for day and night shift operations.
- Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and all site safety requirements.
- Maintain tools, documentation logs, and inspection records.
- Coordinate work safely around heavy equipment and active construction zones.
- Must comply with all site safety requirements, including OSHA regulations, client standards, and company policies.
- Enrolled in or completed a recognized electrical apprenticeship program preferred.
- Minimum two (2) years of relevant experience in construction or industrial electrical environments preferred.
- Knowledge of generators, electric motors, and preventive maintenance practices preferred.
- Ability to read basic electrical drawings and schematics is an asset.
- Valid working permit required.
- Ability to work extended shifts (approximately 11 hours) and day or night schedules.
- Experience in heavy civil, LNG, industrial, or energy projects.
- Familiarity with temporary power systems on construction sites.
- Experience supporting motor-driven equipment and generators.
- Outdoor construction environment.
- Exposure to weather conditions, noise, and heavy equipment operations.
- Extended work shifts (day or night).
- Project-based assignment (approximately one year).
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including personal computers and peripherals.Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional climbing, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting.
Motion: Repetitive hand motions, including frequent keyboarding, mouse use, and occasional reaching. Site walks. Occasional travel to another projects.
Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; occasionally. May be exposed to extremes of heat and cold and certain unsafe environments; occasionally works near moving heavy machinery. Specific vision abilities include close vision and color vision (please advise if you are color blind). The employee must also inspect the project frequently and may be exposed to ongoing construction and weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud.
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress, Occasional multi-tasking.
Physical Demands:
Frequent standing and walking on uneven ground, climbing ladders and accessing equipment platforms, bending, kneeling, crouching, and working in confined spaces, lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally, working at heights (as required), exposure to construction site noise and vibration
