As the Plant Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring legal and regulatory compliance with all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements across the plant. This role will act in an advisory capacity to the site leadership team and will drive a strong EHS culture, facilitating behavioural change and environmental stewardship across the site. In addition, the role will play a key part in supporting safe, compliant, and reliable operational delivery, ensuring that EHS standards are fully embedded in day-to-day plant operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Delivery & Risk Management
- Embed EHS standards into day-to-day operations to support safe, compliant, and reliable operational delivery with a Zero-Harm mindset.
- Conduct regular EHS audits, inspections, and assessments to uphold standards ,identify improvement opportunities and promote employee engagement
- Lead investigations into accidents, incidents, near-misses, and environmental events, ensuring corrective and preventive actions are completed.
- Provide leadership to the Safety & Sustainability teams to deliver site safety , environmental and sustainability objectives .
- Support the change control process and collaborate with operational teams to ensure EHS considerations are built into equipment, substances, processes, and new technologies
EHS trategy, Compliance & Governance
- Develop, implement, and maintain the site EHS Strategy in alignment with global organisational KPI’s.
- Ensure full legal and regulatory compliance with all Environmental, Health & Safety requirements.
- Monitor changes in EHS legislation and industry developments, updating site policies and the Plant Safety Statement as required.
- Maintain accurate EHS records, environmental monitoring data, and metrics for management and regulatory reporting.
- Drive attainment and maintenance of relevant EHS accreditations.
Culture, Capability & Training
- Lead the development of a highly engaged EHS culture across the plant.
- Design, organise, and deliver EHS training to ensure employee competence and awareness.
- Coach and mentor employees and front-line team members to embed behavioural safety and environmental responsibility.
- Lead and motivate the Plant Safety Teams and the Emergency Response Team (ERT).
- Support the Occupational Health and Wellness programme in partnership with the Company Doctor/OH Nurse and the Human Resources Team.
Stakeholder Engagement & Leadership
- Act as an advisor to the site leadership team on all EHS matters.
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with Corporate Safety and Environmental teams, as well as regulatory bodies such as the HSA and EPA.
- Participate actively in plant project teams to ensure EHS considerations are built into all planning and execution.
- Communicate effectively on EHS performance, insights, and priorities across all levels of the organisation.
Team Leadership
- Lead, manage, and develop a team, ensuring clear objectives, accountability, and high performance.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and support to build team capability, technical expertise, and leadership skills.
- Drive performance excellence through regular feedback, talent development planning, and fostering a collaborative, engaged, and high-performing team culture.
Educational Requirements:
Degree or equivalent in Environmental Health and Safety, Engineering or Science related discipline is required.
Recognised professional qualifications in NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA are an advantage.
Relevant Experience:
- 10+ years’ experience in Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) within a highly regulated manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Demonstrated passion for EHS with a proven track record of delivering measurable, sustainable improvements to operational safety and environmental performance.
- Strong experience in developing, implementing, and continuously improving behavioural safety programmes and EHS management systems.
- Extensive experience conducting EHS audits, incident investigations, risk assessments, and root cause analysis, with the ability to drive effective corrective and preventive actions.
- In-depth knowledge of EHS legislation, regulatory requirements, and best practices, with the capability to manage all site-level EHS matters confidently and proactively.
- Exceptional stakeholder engagement, communication, and influencing skills, with the ability to provide clear guidance and decision-making support to employees, managers, and senior leaders.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, demonstrating sound judgment, resilience, and a solutions-focused mindset.
