Grand Bazaar NYC Market Production Manager - INTERIM

Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director and working with the Assistant Market Manager, the Interim Market Production Manager helps ensure the successful operation of Grand Bazaar NYC’s weekly and pop up events. In partnership with the Executive Director and full team, the Interim Market Production Manager will assist with all aspects of the Grand Bazaar NYC flagship event, help manage relationships, and assist with special projects. This leadership position has an eye for retail, and requires exceptional follow-through, attention to detail, written and verbal communication chops and superior problem-solving skills. A sense of humor helps, too.
Responsibilities & Objectives (Include but are not limited to):
Special Projects (60%)
- Working with Executive Director and full-team, help plan and produce events, manage partnerships, production schedules, and workflows including but not limited to optimizing and streamlining use of scheduling software, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) Point of Sale (POS), and other systems to plan events, record and report transactions
- Assist with partnership outreach and project management on special events
- Help develop consistent and clear vendor communications that keep vendors engaged, informed and compliant with the market regulations
- Other projects and responsibilities, as assigned
Market Planning, Booking, and Reporting: (25%)
- Working with Assistant Manager, coordinate all aspects of the market on Sunday and for special events, from load-in to load-out, merchant placements, collecting payments, day-to-day operations, rental equipment, and market supplies
- Proactively identify and reactively secure quality weekly and pop up vendor bookings such that the market is fully booked in advance
Day-of Market Operations and Administration (15%)
- Be on site early and late to help manage day-to-day logistics and operations of the Grand Bazaar flagship Sunday event, including efficient and friendly vendor and equipment set up, load in and layout
- Help ensure accurate vendor recordkeeping, timely payments and reporting as needed
- Monitor activities, answer questions, ensuring compliance with market rules and school regulations
- Identify areas for improvement and adjustment
- Review the day’s performance, noting and reporting areas for improvement and planning for future events
- Help recruit, hire, and onboard new market staff.
- Monitor and adjust staffing schedules according to market needs
Qualifications
- Five (5) to seven (7) years of event planning, operations, and/or program management or applicable experience, preferably in a public-facing setting, e.g., retail, conferences, restaurant, or pop up markets
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience managing staff (preferably supervisory experience similar in scope) with a people-centered and inclusive leadership style preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a high level of emotional intelligence
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a desire and proven ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds and knowledge levels.
- Process-orientation, creative problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot while being agile and adaptable to continuous change to effectively meet emergent needs.
- Strong dispute mediation, conflict management, and de-escalation skills, with a willingness to compassionately and firmly manage the complex dynamics of operating an outdoor public space in New York City.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college, associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (aiding techniques/tools will be provided for safe lifting upon request) and work outdoors, walking and standing for periods of up to 12 hours, sometimes in extreme temperatures. - Ability to work in a potentially noisy environment.
Schedule
This position is part time. We estimate 20-25 hours of work/week, with a need to start as early as 6AM on weekends. Weekend and holiday work is required.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $1,500.00 - $2,500.00 per month
Expected hours: 10 – 22 per week
