Facilities Maintenance Technician

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES:

Utilizes a variety of skills and basic knowledge to perform maintenance, repair, or replacement activities as needed on all AAATA facilities (and their appurtenances) including buildings, offices, shelters, stops, signs, fences, gates, lawns, parking lots, sidewalks, etc. Works cooperatively with AAATA hourly, management employees, and contractors to ensure that the quality, timeliness, and quantity of facility maintenance efforts are acceptable.

REQUIREMENTS:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of equipment, tools and supplies weighing up to 75 lbs.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: Minimum of a high school diploma or GED. Vocational certification or college course work in related fields preferred.

EXPERIENCE: Two years’ previous facility maintenance experience.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATION: Valid Driver’s License

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains floors, parking lots, curbs, sidewalks and other paved or graveled areas by power and/or hand scrubbing, sweeping and vacuuming.
  • Cleans and maintains storage cabinets, windows, doors, guard rails, and other fixtures. Empties trash dumpsters, recycle containers and scrap bins.
  • Maintains hydraulic hoists, hoist controls, pumps and plumbing by performing preventative maintenance, repairs, and keeping accurate records.
  • Performs maintenance and keeps records on fire prevention system (smoke alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers, hoses, etc.). Supervises preventative maintenance by subcontractors. Assists with annual fire alarm and riser.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and supervision and support for contaminated waste processing, storage, removal, and disposal. Cleans all primary and secondary waste containers at all AAATA facilities.
  • Maintains the fleet fueling system(s) using preventative maintenance, record keeping, repairing or supervising the repair of fuel system meters, hoses, nozzles, underground tanks, valves, filters, pipes, pumps, etc.
  • Maintains water and sewer systems (plumbing, bathrooms, drains, meters, sinks, softeners, disposal and trench drains, bus washers, filters, sumps, etc.). Keeps records on repairs, cleaning, painting and ordering spare parts.
  • Coordinates the repair of time devices, including master clock, time clocks, time stamps, and regular wall clocks.
  • Provides effective interior and exterior lighting systems using preventative maintenance, repair, replacement, cleaning, upgrade and ordering parts for interior, exterior and emergency lights, ballasts, starters, lenses and fuses.
  • Maintains lawns, shrubbery, groundcovers, flowers, plants, and trees at all locations. Services, maintains, and stores lawn care equipment.
  • Removes snow and ice from buildings, sidewalks, boarding locations, shelters, and driveways. Uses salts and chemicals to control buildups of snow and ice. Services and maintains equipment used in snow/ice removal.
  • Properly services bus stop signs, shelters, map cases, kiosks, detour signs, benches, trash receptacles around bus stop zones, shelters, and park-and-ride facilities. (Includes coordinating with MissDig to excavating.)
  • Repair/replace doors, gates, windows, glass, and facility appurtenances.
  • Performs semiskilled plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry duties as may be associated with minor repairs or improvements to facilities.
  • Assists in overseeing contractors used in minor construction projects such as bus shelter pads, curb cuts, lead walks, door/gate repairs, electrical repairs and wiring, pump and motor replacement, roof repairs, plumbing, etc.
  • Coordinates with Parts Department and/or Facilities Maintenance Lead to care, store, and account for inventories used in activities. Recommends to supervisors to stock or re-stock needed materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Completes and maintains work orders, journals, reports, and other records as necessary to document, track, and otherwise control and assess the repair, maintenance, or replacement of all facilities and their appurtenances.
  • Drives Authority vehicles daily, including transporting fellow workers, supplies, and equipment to and between various locations in order to perform facilities maintenance duties at all AAATA facilities.
  • Prepares weekly reports of activities, the consumption of parts and materials, and inventory control and purchasing of replacement supplies.
  • Maintains current system knowledge. Provides customer service at bus stops using personal knowledge, schedule books, and other resources.
  • Employees are required to perform other related functions as assigned.
