POSITION SUMMARY
Feeding South Florida® (FSF) is seeking a highly organized Food Production Manager to lead large-scale food production with consistency and quality. This role requires strong culinary skills, reliability, compassion, and collaboration while overseeing meal preparation, staff, and volunteer management, purchasing, record-keeping, and recipe consistency. The FPM must ensure food and warehouse safety, support disaster relief efforts, and foster unity and accountability among the team. Success in this position demands strategic thinking, adaptability, and effective management of food movement to maintain preservation and quality control.
COMPENSATION: $65,000 - $78,000
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Work with the food production team to develop healthy, from scratch established cycle menus.
Ensure the production of a high volume of healthy, flavorful, and fresh meals daily, in accordance with program guidelines.
Create daily production sheets, order guides, and other administrative functions for programs.
Maintain PAR inventory of food and meals, keep all areas organized, rotated and at acceptable PAR levels.
Oversee cleanliness of all equipment, culinary spaces or spaces utilized by culinary.
Ability to make decisions and substitutions based on quality control, seasonal adjustments, and market fluctuations.
Hire, coach, counsel, and conduct performance evaluations of the food production team.
Develop, train, and mentor a team aligned with Feeding South Florida’s culture and values.
Report and address any equipment issues, wear and tear, damage, and ongoing maintenance.
Manage the training and oversight of standards for kitchen volunteers.
Ensure the highest food safety and sanitation standards are met and always followed.
Maintain a positive and engaging work environment.
Perform other duties as assigned by management.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrate strategic interactions with other departments for common FSF goals as needed.
Clear understanding of P&L impact.
Ability to lead a team, fostering culture of inclusion and responsibility.
Minimum five years of food manufacturing, high volume production, handling, storage, and kitchen experience.
Ability to assess proper cooking yields and execute portion control while reducing waste and converting recipes to larger batches.
Must have good working knowledge of standard kitchen equipment, tools, techniques, and safe operating procedures of large-scale food service and distribution operations.
Working knowledge of excel and recipe costing.
Experience preferred cooking for children’s and senior program(s) using CN and PFS labels and menus or willingness to learn.
Must be responsive, reliable and work in a deadline-oriented environment.
Proven management and leadership skills with ability to hold the team accountable to KPIs.
Ability to plan tasks days and weeks in advance and clearly communicate the plan.
Sensitivity to diverse populations with sound judgment and the ability to serve people in a compassionate, patient, friendly, and courteous manner, showing sincere interest in people’s concerns.
Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, with comfort and the ability to speak publicly and teach others.
Detailed and thorough documentation and record-keeping skills with production as well as staff coaching and concerns.
Must have a positive attitude, flexibility, and a good sense of humor.
Commitment to the service of others while fully supporting the organization’s mission and values.
Access to reliable transportation to ensure daily attendance at work.
Successful clearance of a Level 2 background check.
PHYSICAL DEMAND & WORKING CONDITIONS
Hours of Operation: Although kitchen hours are Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., this position will occasionally require some evenings and weekends. This position plays a key role in natural disaster response and may work close to 60-hour weeks as necessary during peak times throughout the year (Thanksgiving, Hurricanes).
Environment: The FPM works in a kitchen setting with hot surfaces and moving parts. There may be extended periods of sitting, standing, and/or bending, lifting; listening, talking and/or visual concentration; writing and/or computer use. Occasional work will occur in the warehouse or outside in inclement weather. The noise in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
Travel: Feeding South Florida serves four counties so there may be same-day travel between the counties, using a personal vehicle, and occasional out-of-town travel for meetings, conferences, or events. While this position is currently county-based, it will change over time and flexibility is required.
OSHA Standards Lifting requirements are 50 pounds and when lifting loads heavier than 50 pounds, use two or more people to lift the load.
