Job Specific Information: Forest Oak Middle School, a Title I Community School, seeks a Parent Community Coordinator focused on reducing chronic absenteeism by supporting students and families. The coordinator will work with the Student Well-Being Team, Counseling Team, and Community Schools Liaison to identify attendance concerns, conduct outreach, and connect families with resources related to health, housing, transportation, and other needs affecting attendance. The role includes building trusting relationships, coordinating supports and information for families, and organizing events that remove barriers to regular school attendance. A bachelor’s degree is required, and Spanish fluency is preferred to serve multilingual families. The wage range for this position is between$27.67and$41.87per hour, based on years of service. Summary Description:
Under direction of the Community School Coordinator in collaboration with the school principal, provides support work to serve parents and the school community and enhance family engagement. Collaborates with the Community School Liaison in determining and planning, recommending/referring, and implementing wrap around services. Collaborates with parents and family members to advocate for and include in home-school engagement events and opportunities. Implements strategies to support the school community�s needs that can be met using school and/or community resources. Identifies and develops available resources for supporting school programs and opportunities and works to make them readily available for families. Serves as liaison between the parents and families and the school and community. Assists parents and families in connecting with and utilizing available community and county services as well as school specific programming and resources. Establishes and maintains a school-community relationship, and performs related work requiring the ability to work effectively with parents, community members, school staff, and others. This is a multi-position classification, and, while the level of assigned work is very similar, duties and responsibilities may vary somewhat from school to school based upon individualized school community needs and programs. Knowledge Skills Abilities:

Knowledge of school programs, the school community and organizations, and available community services and resources in Montgomery County. Ability to work effectively with school staff, parents, the community, local organizations, and diverse socioeconomic groups. Ability to develop and implement programs to involve parents and the community in school affairs. Ability to serve as a parent advocate. Skill in organizing and working with groups. Excellent oral and written communications and human relations skills. Fluency in a second language is preferred for some positions. Knowledge of and the ability to meet the seven core competencies of the Supporting Services Professional Growth System (SSPGS).

Education Training Experience:
Bachelor^s degree required. Coursework in education, counseling, human services field, or communications is desirable. Experience with school and community activities and programs, preferably in a leadership role. Some counseling experience is desirable. Other combinations of applicable education, training, and experience equivalent to a Bachelor^s degree, which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform effectively in the position, may be considered.Certificate License:None
