About the Role

The Health and Safety Senior Advisor plays a key role in ensuring Health NZ meets its health and safety obligations across legislation, regulations, and industry standards. The position provides expert guidance to Health and Safety Business Partners and District leaders, helping to implement national strategies and support local operational needs.

Working closely with District Operations and Occupational Health teams, the Senior Advisor helps embed best‑practice approaches and strengthen day‑to‑day health and safety performance. A core part of the role is coaching and mentoring less‑experienced practitioners, building capability across the team and ensuring consistent application of Health NZ's standards, behaviours, and values.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have the following:

  • Relevant graduate or postgraduate qualifications, including a Health and Safety qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience applying Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice
  • 5–10 years of health and safety delivery experience, including:
  • Working with and influencing stakeholders in healthcare or similar sectors
  • Implementing and managing compliance with key legislation and standards, such as the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, ACC AEP, and ISO45001
  • Delivering strategic and organisation‑wide programmes at a local level
  • Training, coaching, and supporting health and safety practitioners, including incident investigation and sharing lessons learned
  • Managing risk, including identifying, developing, and monitoring controls
  • Ability to operate effectively in complex, changing, and sometimes ambiguous environments
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, relationship‑building and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of the health sector and in‑depth understanding of health and safety legislation, regulations, and standards
