Role Description
We're seeking enthusiastic team members who thrive in dynamic environments and enjoy working across multiple departments. As a Team Member at Farewell Market, you'll be the heart of our customer experience—helping shoppers discover the stories behind their food, supporting daily operations across the store, and contributing to a welcoming community gathering place.
This is an ideal role for generalists who love variety in their workday. You might start your morning stocking shelves with fresh local produce, spend your afternoon assisting customers at checkout, and finish your day helping prepare our grab-and-go cases or restocking our shelves.
Key Responsibilities:
Customer Service
- Provide warm, knowledgeable service that reflects our community values
- Help customers find products and share the stories of local producers
- Answer questions about organic, sustainable, and place-based products
- Create a welcoming environment that makes customers feel part of our community
Store Operations
- Stock shelves, rotate products, and maintain attractive displays
- Work across departments including grocery, produce, prepared foods, and wellness
- Assist with opening and closing procedures
- Maintain cleanliness and organization throughout the store
- Support inventory counts and receiving deliveries
Team Collaboration
- Work cooperatively with team members across all departments
- Communicate effectively about product needs, customer feedback, and store operations
- Participate in team meetings and contribute ideas for improvement
- Step in wherever needed to support store operations and customer flow
Point of Sale
- Process transactions accurately and efficiently
- Handle cash, cards, and other payment methods
- Bag items thoughtfully with attention to product care
- Assist with returns and customer inquiries at checkout
Qualifications
Required:
- Genuine interest in natural foods, sustainability, and community connection
- Friendly, approachable demeanor with strong communication skills
- Flexibility to work across multiple departments and adapt to changing priorities
- Reliable and punctual with strong work ethic
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Comfortable with physical work including lifting up to 40 lbs, standing for extended periods, and frequent bending/reaching
- Available to work a flexible schedule including weekends and some holidays
Preferred:
- Previous retail or customer service experience
- Knowledge of natural/organic products and local food systems
- Experience with POS systems
- Food handler's permit (or willingness to obtain)
