Hr Manager

Bytown Catering requires a Human Resources Manager who will oversee all HR functions, from daily operations and employee support to strategic planning and policy development. This individual will play a key role in helping to shape a positive and productive workplace culture.

Job Duties

HR Strategy, Policy and Leadership:

  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures in alignment with company goals.
  • Provide guidance to leadership on best practices, compliance, and employee matters.
  • Ensure HR activities comply with all relevant labor laws and industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate employee records in compliance with HR best practices. Contribute to HR projects, continuous improvement, and cross-functional collaboration.

Payroll & Benefits Administration:

  • Manage daily payroll edits and timesheet accuracy.
  • Process weekly payroll, including vacation pay and ROE requests.
  • Administer benefits: onboard/terminate members, and handle staff inquiries.
  • Manage employee gratuity distribution.

Recruitment & Onboarding:

  • Post job openings, review applicants, and coordinate interviews.
  • Prepare employment contracts and manage onboarding documentation.
  • Support smooth orientation and integration of new team members.

Employee Relations & Support:

  • Respond to employee requests, including employment verification letters.
  • Assist in performance management and disciplinary actions when needed.
  • Promote open communication and a positive workplace culture.

Staffing & Scheduling Support:

  • Assist operations with employee scheduling and shift planning.
  • Monitor hours and overtime, notifying leadership of any issues.
  • Coordinate replacements in response to call-ins or cancellations.

Qualifications

  • · 3–5 years of HR experience, including at least 1–2 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Bilingual in English and French is an asset
  • Proficient in payroll tools, and MS Office (especially Excel).
  • In-depth knowledge of employment legislation and best practices.
  • Hands-on experience with payroll and benefits administration.
  • Strong background in employee relations and recruitment.
  • Experience in service, hospitality, or retail industries is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities.
  • Discreet and professional in handling confidential information.
  • Adaptable and calm under pressure with a proactive mindset.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field and/or CHRP, CHRL, or equivalent HR certification is an asset
  • Valid Driver’s License is required is an asset
  • Ability to obtain a Government of Canada Security Clearance is required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00-$75,000.00 per year
