OVERVIEW:

Established in 1957, UFCW and Employers Trust, LLC, also known as the Trust Fund Office, is one of the top 500 largest retirement funds (managing over $4.2 billion in assets) in the USA. We administer health plans and pension benefits for over 230,000 participants at 116 employers throughout Northern California and Hawaii. We serve the grocery food market and retail pharmacy industry consisting of essential workers from employers like Safeway, Save Mart, and Raley’s. The Trust Fund Office administers several multiemployer plans; an employee benefit plan maintained under multiple collective bargaining agreements. Our “Taft Hartley” plans are governed by strong Boards of Directors consisting of Union and Employer industry leaders (as Trustees) with a fiduciary focus and care for our Membership and their families. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN AN IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • A candidate who has a passion for Human Resources work
  • Detailed, high sense of urgency, results driven Human Resources professional
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
  • 2 years Human Resources experience
  • Certification in Human Resources (PHR and/or SHRM-CP) is preferred
  • Position is onsite in Concord, CA. (East Bay). Travel to Roseville office at least three times a month. Mileage and toll reimbursed.

JOB SUMMARY

Serves as the human resources representative for the Concord and Roseville Offices. Performs the day-to-day administration and coordination of human resources transactions and employee/labor relations matters for the office. Position is Exempt, Non-Union.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Acts as the Human Resources Generalist handling day-to-day personnel transactions and assisting with labor relations issues.

  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
  • Under the direction and guidance of the Senior Director of Human Resources, administers collective bargaining agreements, administrative guidelines, federal and state laws and regulations. May provide back-up assistance on collective bargaining issues relating to Teamsters and FAIR contracts.
  • Coordinates and administers recruitment processes including working collaboratively with hiring managers, preparing and posting job announcements, reviewing applications and determining qualifications, conducting preliminary phone screenings, scheduling and coordinating logistics for candidate interviews, administering pre-employment assessments, conducting background screening and reference checks, e-verify, preparing offer letters, and similar tasks.
  • Prepares, coordinates, and conducts new hire orientation, management functions training, quarterly presentations for management, and similar training programs.
  • Processes paperwork and maintains records related to recruitment, performance appraisals, terminations, and similar transactions.
  • Assists with providing guidance to supervisory staff on employee relations issues, recruitment, performance management, and similar issues. Escalates complex or sensitive issues to the Senior Director of Human Resources.
  • Prepares reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends (e.g. turnover, leave of absence hours, etc.).
  • Responds to employee and supervisor inquiries regarding human resources policies and collective bargaining agreement provisions.
  • Develops positive working relationships with employees and union representatives.
  • Tracks attendance and administers leave (FMLA, CFRA, PDL, etc.) ensuring legal compliance. Escalates complex leave matter to Senior Director of Human Resources.
  • Administers workplace accommodation (ADA, FEHA, Religious, etc.) to include interactive process, determinations, and documentation. Escalates complex decisions to Senior Director of Human Resources.
  • Administers and documents the interactive process regarding employee accommodation requests. Escalates complicated approval or denial requests.
  • Assists supervisory staff with disciplinary actions in compliance with collective bargaining agreements and established policies and procedures. Escalates suspension requests. Attends and participates in due process meetings, employee disciplinary meetings and terminations.
  • Conducts exit interviews and employee check-in interviews and prepares reports of findings.
  • Responds to unemployment claims and attends hearings on behalf of the company.
  • Ensures all I-9 handling is within compliance standards.
  • Identifies situations that may require investigations (such as allegations of harassment, discrimination and general complaints) and confers with the Senior Director of Human Resources and management regarding appropriate actions and plans. Carry out investigations.
  • Creates and reviews written summaries of employee relations issues, etc.
  • Maintains and updates personnel documents and files related to current and former employees, as well as applicants and candidates.
  • Handles workers compensation process including filing paperwork, communicating with the employee, physician, and workers compensation insurance provider. Documents leave and restriction status after conferring with the Senior Director of Human Resources and the employee’s management team regarding appropriate actions and plans.
  • Periodically updates the Injury and Illness Prevention Program and ensures the program is in compliance with Cal/OSHA regulations.
  • Assists in the annual update of the Business Resumption Plan.
  • Creates, documents, and updates standard operating procedures for the Human Resources Department.
  • Trains new regular Human Resources staff as needed.
  • Completes special projects as assigned.


MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field and 2 years of related experience.
  • A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.


PREFERRED JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience working in a collectively bargained environment.
  • Certification in Human Resources (e.g., PHR and/or SHRM-CP).


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS

  • Knowledge of employment and labor laws and regulations.
  • Knowledge of principles and best practices of human resources management.
  • Knowledge of applicable policies and procedures governing the hiring, employment, and separation of employees.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary to develop and maintain effective and appropriate working relationships with co-workers and union representatives.
  • Business writing skills necessary to accurately edit and revise company documents, such as policies, memos, performance appraisals and employee reviews.
  • Ability to plan, develop and coordinate multiple projects.

This position is subject to a pre-employment negative drug screen and satisfactory completion of a background check and reference checks.


Salary Range: $75,154 - $88,404 per year.
