Job Summary

Sensient Pharmaceuticals is a leading global supplier of high-quality, innovative sensory excipients, including colors, coatings, flavors, and extracts for the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical markets.

The Innovation Scientist in the Pharmaceutical Business Unit develops excipients for dietary supplements and pharmaceutical products, managing new product development across color, flavor, coating, and extract platforms. This role involves independent project execution, formulation, testing, data analysis, and cross-functional collaboration to deliver customer-focused solutions at bench, pilot, and commercial scale. Based in St. Louis, MO, the position supports projects across North America and Europe.

What you will do:

  • Manage innovation pipeline and NPD projects, delivering commercially viable, application-focused solutions
  • Partner with technical and commercial teams to identify gaps and drive new product development
  • Oversee Stage Gate process, resource planning, and project execution
  • Deliver successful solutions across color, coatings, and flavor platforms to meet sales targets
  • Ensure launch readiness, including technical deliverables, study design, and accurate documentation
  • Build cross-functional relationships, transfer technologies, and develop application expertise (e.g., gummies, beverages, tablets)
  • Support commercialization through regulatory alignment, production transfer, training, and technical content development

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Pharmacy, Food Science, Biochemistry, or Chemistry related field
  • 2+ years of experience in new product development or technical ingredients in consumable goods.
  • Experience with formulation, development, and production of technical ingredients
  • Background in nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals, coatings, colors applications is a plus
  • Familiarity with processing equipment (e.g., fluid bed, coating systems, granulators, tablet presses) is advantageous
  • Strong adaptability, organization, time management, collaboration, and problem-solving skills required
  • Excellent communication skills, self-motivation, creativity, and proficiency in MS Office and ERP systems
