JOB DESCRIPTION Kitchen Porter
Department: Kitchen

Responsible To: Head Kitchen Porter, Commis Chef, Chef de Partie, Sous Chef, Head Chef, Operations Manager, General Manager

Purpose of the Role: The Kitchen Porters role is a key position within the team and involves ensuring all kitchen duties are performed as requested by your manager

Responsibilities: Under the general guidance and direction of the Head Chef and within the limits of established Neighbourhood's policies, procedures and departmental standards manual, assists in overseeing and directing all aspects of Kitchen operations. To be fully conversant with all emergency and security procedures within the restaurant, and take charge of any situation that may arise. To maintain the highest standards of service and operational efficiency within all areas of responsibility. To ensure there is a positive approach, which is actively pursued in respect of training and development of all departmental personnel.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Check all kitchen and floor areas are free from waste/rubbish.
  • Ensure all deliveries are accounted for and safely stored away.
  • Check fridge temperatures each morning and afternoon.
  • Keep all exits and walkways clear and clean.
  • Maintain good stock rotation in all fridges/freezers and dry goods area and ensure a good hygiene policy.
  • Laundry collections.
  • Assist in the pot wash/wash up area.
  • Assist in the waste management/recycling programme in the kitchen areas/shops.
  • Implement a daily housekeeping plan on all kitchen equipment and in the general area of the kitchen.
  • Assist in the set up procedures of functions etc.
  • To undertake any other duties that may be assigned to you from time to time.
  • General knowledge of Restaurant.
  • To ensure you comply with Restaurant Policy regarding uniform and personal hygiene.
  • To attend meetings and training sessions as required.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

To be fully aware, competent in and follow at all times:

  • Restaurant fire procedures
  • Restaurant security procedures
  • Restaurant health & safety policy and procedures
  • Restaurant facilities and opportunities to promote these to customers
  • Restaurant and departmental operational standards and procedures
  • Short and long term sales and marketing promotions
  • Customer service standards
  • Company and Restaurant performance and conduct guidelines, policies and procedures
  • To attend all fire, health and safety, training as requested.

To ensure that all standards and legal requirements in respect of health, safety and contingency procedures are complied with at all times.

To work in a safe manner at all times, to ensure personal safety and the safety of colleagues and visitors to the restaurant and report anything that may jeopardise safety to your Manager upon discovery including the actions of fellow colleagues.

To attend all training sessions and meetings as requested.

To maintain appropriate standards of conduct, dress, hygiene, uniforms, appearance and posture in accordance with the restaurant’s standards.

To work within the team and help where required within the business.

To achieve and maintain the highest possible levels of customer service to both external (i.e. paying customers) and internal customers (i.e. fellow colleagues) at all times in accordance with Restaurant policy.

To make suggestions to your Manager where possible which you feel will improve the operation, customer service and/or the success of your department and the Restaurant.

To assist fellow colleagues both within and outside your normal department where possible to ensure operational and customer service requirements are achieved at all times.

To report for duty on time and on the days rostered.

To be familiar with and work to the stated standards both as an individual and a members of team to achieve the Restaurant Mission Statement.
