Lab Technician

QT, Quality Testing is hiring an onsite Field / Soils Laboratory Technician

Job Summary

QT (Quality Testing) is seeking an experienced Field / Soils Laboratory Technician to support a large-scale heavy civil mass grading project in Haskell, Texas. This role requires a hands-on professional capable of performing construction field testing and inspection as well as basic soils laboratory testing in an on-site project lab. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across multiple large sites and in fast-paced earthwork operations.

Field Duties:

Perform field testing for heavy civil mass grading operations

Conduct soil compaction testing (nuclear gauge or equivalent)

Observe and document earthwork across multiple large sites

Verify materials placement, moisture conditioning, lift thickness, and compaction

Complete daily field reports and testing documentation

Coordinate with project managers, contractors, and superintendents

Laboratory Duties:

Perform basic soils laboratory testing in an on-site lab, including:

Moisture content

Atterberg limits

Sieve analysis

Proctor tests (as required)

Maintain lab equipment and testing areas

Accurately record and report test results

Assist with sample preparation and handling

Qualifications

3-5 years experience in construction materials testing, geotechnical, or CMT

Strong background in heavy civil earthwork / mass grading/soils

Experience with both field and basic soils lab testing

Familiarity with ASTM / AASHTO testing procedures

Ability to work independently in a field-based environment

Willingness to travel and work extended hours as project demands

Valid driver’s license required

NICET, ACI, or similar lab certs specific to soils.

Work Environment & Schedule

Field-based role supporting large-scale civil construction

Combination of outdoor fieldwork and lab work

Extended hours and weekend work may be required based on project schedule

Physical Conditions: Ability to work in the field in different climates/zones in construction settings and uneven terrain. Must be able to physically walk construction sites and able to lift 50-60 pounds.
