About Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora
Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is the country's largest employer, delivering universal public healthcare to more than 5 million New Zealanders.
We provide essential hospital, specialist, and community health services across 80+ locations — from large urban centres to rural towns and remote communities.
Our goal is to improve health outcomes for all New Zealanders by delivering equitable, accessible, and innovative care.
About the Role
As a Lead Solution Architect, you will play a critical role in shaping the digital systems that support better healthcare outcomes across Aotearoa.
You will lead programme-level solution architecture, translating strategic direction into practical, high-quality solutions that align with enterprise architecture principles. Your work will ensure digital solutions are robust, scalable, secure, and seamlessly integrated across the health system.
Alongside broad architecture expertise, experience in radiology or diagnostic imaging will be highly advantageous. This includes knowledge of imaging systems and workflows such as PACS, VNA, RIS, and enterprise imaging platforms. You will contribute to strengthening the digital foundations that enable safe and efficient imaging services nationwide.
Working within the Enterprise Architecture function, you will collaborate with teams across the Centre and HDIP delivery partners to guide technology decisions, uplift capability, and ensure programmes deliver real value for clinicians, patients, and communities.
You'll thrive in a ‘one-team' culture, with the autonomy to drive sound architectural decisions while ensuring alignment with enterprise standards — helping build a connected, future-ready digital health ecosystem.
Please note: This role is open only to current Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora employees. Priority will be given to employees affected by organisational change.
About the Team
The Centre for Digital Modernisation of Health (the Centre) represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform healthcare delivery across New Zealand.
Established to deliver the Health Digital Investment Plan (HDIP), the Centre will oversee a multibillion-dollar investment programme over the next 10 years to modernise Health NZ's digital systems and infrastructure.
Operating as a distinct entity within Health NZ, the Centre brings together senior specialists in investment, technology, design, and delivery, supported by world-class partners. It has its own Board responsible for performance and HDIP delivery.
This is a rare opportunity to help establish a new national capability while delivering large-scale digital transformation that will benefit clinicians, patients, and communities across the motu.
