Provides outstanding customer service to maintain the smooth and orderly operation of library collections and services. Provides basic clerical support. Requires a high level of public contact, strong multi-tasking abilities and has opportunities to assist or lead on various projects. To ensure success, the employee will uphold the established core competencies of communication/customer service, professionalism/leadership, productivity/teamwork/attendance, job knowledge and following policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- CUSTOMER SERVICE/CLERICAL: Provides direct or indirect assistance to customers; provides routine and administrative tasks
- Delivers excellent customer service to patrons in person, over the phone, and/or via email; striving for interactions that are accurate, thorough, timely and personalized
- Demonstrates a broad knowledge of library collections, services and resources, both in person and online
- Capitalizes on opportunities to promote and upsell services to patrons, including, but not limited to programs, online databases, collections, etc.
- Provides reader’s advisory services
- Provides customers with basic technology assistance, including, but not limited to computer use (hardware and software), printing, mobile devices and other office equipment
- Provides limited research and genealogy assistance
- Utilizes payment management systems
- Enforces the library’s policies and procedures and works to support safety and security of the library building and grounds
- SPECIAL PROJECTS: Participates in secondary duties and professional development opportunities
- Assists in duties and projects related to the functions and responsibilities of the department
- Assists in developing and implementation of library programming
Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities
- Preferred: Three to five years related experience; associate's degree

- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to represent the library in a responsible, professional and trustworthy manner
- Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment
- Ability to maintain a calm demeanor under stressful or unsettling circumstances
- Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to work efficiently while paying close attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
- Ability to assess users’ needs and provide assistance
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and courteous working relationships with staff and the public
- Ability to meet the flexible scheduling needs of the library
- General mathematics skills
- Basic general computer skills, including keyboarding, word processing and email
- Ability to use library and general office equipment, including computer, printer, photocopier and telephone
The City anticipates filling these positions pending Committee approval and funding.
