Summary
Reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, the Locksmith Technician is a key member of the Facilities Management team responsible for ensuring the continuous, safe, and efficient operation of a complex, critical healthcare environment. The role's principal focus is executing all maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, regulatory tasks, and building system optimization activities required to sustain high‑performing facilities. This position will also supports all architectural, HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and life safety infrastructure. The role requires strong technical acumen, sound judgment, excellent problem‑solving ability, and the capacity to work independently in a fast‑paced environment. Interaction with occupants, contractors, clinical staff, and other building operators is frequent, and the role may require participation in rotating shifts and after‑hours emergency response. The Locksmith Technician provides leadership in operational management, safety, energy efficiency, and regulatory compliance. The ideal candidate is a proactive team player with excellent technical acumen, proven capabilities in multi-tasking, complex problem-solving, and prioritizing a high-volume workload. This position involves shift work, including days, nights, and holidays, on a rotational basis to meet the 24/7 operational demands of the facility.

Responsibilities
  • Perform locksmith-specific duties including key cutting, rekeying, core pinning, and
    installation, repair, and maintenance of diverse lock systems;
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical lock issues and deliver cost-effective, secure solutions;
  • Perform Daily rounds for mechanical rooms as requested;
  • Utilize industry-standard locksmith tools and equipment, including key machines (manual and automatic), pinning kits, plug followers, imprisoning tools, electric strike testers, cylinder shims, lock bypass tools, scope lights, and specialized hardware installation tools;
  • Conduct Preventive Maintenance (PPM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) tasks in compliance with industry standards and manufacturing requirements;
  • Perform routine plant inspections, including interior/exterior facility checks, roof conditions,
    snow-melt systems, and all mechanical/electrical rooms;
  • Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot plumbing systems (fixtures, domestic water, sanitary,
    irrigation) and perform minor architectural repairs (carpentry, painting, drywall, locksmithing, Automatic Door Operators, windows);
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical lock issues and deliver cost-effective, secure solutions;
  • Utilize industry-standard locksmith tools and equipment, including key machines (manual and automatic), pinning kits, plug followers, imprisoning tools, electric strike testers, cylinder shims, lock bypass tools, scope lights, and specialized hardware installation tools;
  • Perform mechanical equipment startups, shutdowns, and ongoing performance monitoring;
  • Ensure full compliance with applicable Government Codes and Regulations, including TSSA, Fire Code, OH&S, and infection control protocols;
  • Conduct required inspections and testing of fire alarm systems, fire protection equipment,
    and life safety systems; maintain accurate logs and documentation;
  • Assist in fire drills and ensure legislative and P3 requirements are met in a healthcare
    environment;
  • Ensure strict adherence to all site health, safety, and security procedures, including proper
    execution of Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) protocols;
  • Ensure all contractors and visitors adhere to PPE requirements and safety protocols;
  • Maintain shop and equipment inventory and recommend required spare parts for continuity of operations;
  • Support capital and operating budget forecasting by providing technical input on equipment
    condition and lifecycle requirements;
  • Perform all assigned duties with minimal supervision and support all seasonal tasks including
    snow removal and minor landscaping;
  • Maintain a professional appearance and uphold EQUANS service standards;
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements / Qualifications
  • Authorized to work in Canada;
  • Must provide full immunization records including required vaccinations for COVID 19;
  • Ability to pass all background checks and security screenings;
  • High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Successful completion of TAOL (The Association of Ontario Locksmiths) programs 1 & 2 (includes 8000 hours apprenticeship) Preferred;
  • Valid locksmith license or certification as required by local regulations is desirable but not mandatory;
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs;
  • Valid Ontario Driver’s License with access to a reliable vehicle preferred;
  • Minimum five (3) years of relevant experience in operating and maintaining complex building systems, ideally in a hospital, healthcare, or other critical public facility;
  • Expertise with locksmith tools, equipment, and techniques used in installing, repairing, and modifying locks, doors, and hardware;
  • Experience and strong knowledge in Carpentry, Painting, Drywall, Locks, and Automatic door Controls, (asset);
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation (HVAC/Mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and control schematics);
  • Working knowledge of TSSA regulations and the Canadian Building Codes;
  • Proficiency in operating Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWPs) and working at heights and in confined spaces;
  • Ability to work with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and strong understanding of TSSA regulations and Canadian Building Codes;
  • Strong initiative, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills;
  • Computer literacy and experience with CMMS platforms such as QFM, Maximo, or SAP.
