Maintenance & Groundskeeper (With Duty Manager Responsibilities)

Job Overview:

Shalom House is an IPAS Centre, located near Carrick-on-Suir, accommodating families seeking international protection. We are seeking a hardworking and reliable Maintenance Worker & Groundskeeper (with Duty Manager Responsibilities) on a permanent basis. This full-time role involves general outdoor and indoor maintenance tasks, landscaping, and minor repairs to keep the property and grounds well-maintained and presentable. The role also requires being on-call on a rostered basis, to respond to emergency out-of-hours maintenance needs as they arise.
This is a full-time position of 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday. Accommodation is provided as part of the role, with a competitive compensation package. Garda Vetting is a prerequisite for this role.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain all outdoor areas, including lawns, pathways, gardens, and communal spaces.
• Perform routine landscaping tasks such as mowing, trimming, weeding, and watering plants.
• Carry out maintenance and repair work, including painting, basic plumbing & electrical fixes.
• Ensure walkways and entrances are clean, safe, and free from hazards (e.g., clearing leaves, snow, or debris).
• Conduct regular inspections of the grounds and facilities, reporting any safety hazards or maintenance needs.
• Assist with the upkeep of equipment, tools, and machinery.
• Check the waste disposal area, and rotate the bins when full, and put out for collection on a weekly basis.
• Respond promptly to maintenance requests from management or residents.
• Be available for on-call duties to handle emergency maintenance needs outside of regular hours.
• Follow health and safety guidelines, ensuring a secure and well-maintained environment.
• Act as Duty Manager, responding to out-of-hours concerns, e.g. fire alarms, medical emergency, or other urgent matters and following all procedures, documenting and writing reports, and feeding back to Management.

Requirements:

Essential:

• Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or maintenance.
• Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical work, and general repairs .
• Ability to operate maintenance tools, lawn equipment, and power tools.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Physically fit and able to lift, bend, and willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Good communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Willingness to work full-time, including weekends, holidays, early mornings, and be on-call for emergency maintenance needs.

Preferred:

• SafePass, Forklift Licence, Manual Handling, Abrasive Wheel Training, Working from Heights training, all desirable and advantageous but not essential. Full training will be provided.
• Security qualifications are an advantage but not necessary to this position.
