The Research Operations, Services and Support (ROSS) Office is a central group within CAMH Research that provides administrative support to ensure that all research activities carried out at CAMH or by CAMH personnel comply with funder, governmental or institutional policies and regulations.

The ROSS Office is seeking a full-time, permanent Grants & Awards Manager reporting to the Director, Grants, Philanthropic Awards and Contracts. This role is integral to the ROSS team and works closely with scientists and research staff. The Grants & Awards Manager is responsible for overseeing all pre-award activities related to the development and submission of research funding applications; award finalization and (non-financial) post-award tasks; research approval processes and databases; and developing policies, procedures and strategies to improve grant administration and success rates. The successful candidate will support a workplace that encourages teamwork, embraces equity, diversity, and inclusion, and complies with all applicable regulatory requirements.

In this role you will:

  • Manage a team of three (with growth possibilities) and oversee activities within the portfolio.
  • Oversee the review and submission of research grants, ensuring agency and institutional requirements are met and providing full development services (narrative content support; draft letter composition; institutional component development; and strategic and editorial review).
  • Review grant budgets for compliance with funder guidelines, expense eligibility, institutional policies, and cost recovery mechanisms (e.g., indirect costs, service provider fees, etc.).
  • Oversee award finalization and non-financial post-award processes (i.e., progress reporting, institutional approval tasks, etc.).
  • Oversee the pre-award research approval process for CAMH Research.
  • Maintain expert knowledge of funder policies, program updates, and funding guidelines, particularly for Canadian and U.S. federal funders (i.e., CIHR, NIH).
  • Work with senior leadership on projects related to planning for the broader research program and the research office (e.g., RSF, IPG).
  • Manage CAMH’s internal funding competitions, including liaison with stakeholders, development of funding program guidelines, recruitment of external committee members, and participation as a member on review committees.
  • Oversee communication strategies for the identification and announcement of funding opportunities; internal deadlines; and services provided by the Grants & Awards Team.
  • Plan and implement frameworks, tools, and resources to improve grant success rates (i.e., Internal Peer Review, workshops, templates, internal web pages, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain grant processes and policies to improve efficiency, minimize institutional risk and add value for CAMH scientists and staff.
  • Enforce policies and procedures to optimize the use of resources, safeguard research funds, maintain reliable information systems, and compliance with external granting agency guidelines/certifications.
  • Serve as subject matter expert to oversee the maintenance and accuracy of the Grants & Awards databases and lead the planning and implementation of any upgrades or changes to existing systems.
  • Produce grant data reports and briefing materials for key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve on internal committees and working groups to represent grant administration perspective (i.e., policy working group; Research Manager forum).
  • Maintain relationships in the research sector to access best practices in the management of research grants (i.e., TAHSN, CARA)
  • Lead and manage the development and submissions of external high-profile and large strategic funding competitions (e.g., CFI, CRC). For the competitions within the portfolio:
  • Serve as institutional point of contact for federal, provincial, and other funding agencies (e.g., CFI, CRC, NIH, etc.)

This position will be primarily located at 250 College Street.
