Mō tēnei tūranga - about the role

As part of the Safety Health and Wellbeing Directorate, the SHW Strategy, Systems, and Assurance Manager is a critical leadership role where you will bring sharp strategic thinking, strong facilitation skills, and the confidence to work with senior leaders.

You will be an expert stakeholder engager, able to work with a variety of people to develop and successfully implement major programmes of work. You will lead a small team to support the organisation’s commitment to having a safe and healthy workplace for all.

This is a fixed term or secondment position from 1 July 2025 to 26 June 2028.


Ko tāu nā i tēnei tūranga - What you’ll bring to the role:

Reporting to the National Manager, Safety, Health, and Wellbeing, you will demonstrate a strong understanding of the Health and Safety at Work Act, the ACC Accredited Employer Programme, and other relevant regulations. Bringing a passion for analysis, you will be adept at interpreting data and preparing reports and papers which explain complex information in plain English to senior decision makers. In this role you will be involved in:

  • Driving continuous improvement
  • Providing expert advice and influencing senior leaders
  • Interpreting data and preparing Board Reports and Executive Papers
  • Leading the delivery of key initiatives.

To be successful in this role, we’d expect you will have:

  • A deep knowledge of NZ Health and Safety legislation
  • Demonstrated experience leading organisational health & safety management approaches and practices.
  • A SHW tertiary qualification with a minimum of 5 years' experience within the health and safety management sector
  • Proven leadership, mentoring and coaching skills
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to analyse data and provide insight into performance
  • Proven experience interpreting and advising on health and safety legislation and best practice
  • Experience in facilitating and developing risk assessments
  • Ability to work under tight timeframes and manage competing priorities

The salary range for this role is $151,774-$168,638 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
