Job Summary:
The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing clinical and administrative support to patients and providers in a highly specialized role. This role involves direct patient care, assisting healthcare providers with examinations and treatments, interventional procedures and managing various administrative tasks to ensure the best patient outcomes. The ideal candidate should be well versed in spinal anatomy, compassionate, detail-oriented, and capable of working efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Duties:
  • Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs, history, and documenting medical history in medical records.
  • Sterile preparation of working area and positioning of patients for spinal procedures
  • Operate x-ray/fluoroscopy during needle-guided spinal procedures
  • Assist healthcare providers during exams and scribe treatment plan per provider's orders
  • Administer medications and injections as directed by healthcare providers.
  • Perform basic laboratory tests and prepare specimens for analysis.
  • Clean and sterilize medical instruments and exam rooms.
  • Provide patient education on plan of care, medications, diets, and other treatments as directed.

Administrative Duties:
  • Greet patients, check them in, and verify their information and insurance details.
  • Schedule appointments and manage patient flow in the office.
  • Answer phone calls, respond to patient inquiries, and relay messages to healthcare providers.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Assist with billing and obtaining prior authorization for interventional pain procedures.
  • Processing Prior Authorization for medications when necessary, familiar with "Cover My Meds."
  • Coordination and follow up on incoming and outgoing referrals
  • Order and maintain inventory of medical supplies and equipment.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and spinal anatomy.
  • Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires manual dexterity for handling medical instruments and typing.

Work Environment:
  • Clinic setting, procedure room, lab
  • May involve exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.
