The Medical Assistant is responsible for providing both clinical and administrative support to Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) physicians and other healthcare personnel. This position includes preparing patients for examinations, managing patient records, communication with patients, assisting with procedures, and ensuring the efficient flow of patients within the clinic.
**Key Responsibilities:**
**Patient Preparation:**
- Greet and prepare patients for examinations and treatments.
- Measure and record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rates.
- Acquire and document patient's medical history within the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
- Assist patients in comprehending procedures and address their basic inquiries.
**Assistance During Exams and Procedures:**
- Provide assistance during patient examinations.
- Prepare examination rooms and ensure that all necessary equipment and supplies are adequately prepared and sterilized.
- Administer medications and treatments as instructed by the physician.
- Conduct diagnostic tests under the physician's supervision.
**Assistance with Front Office:**
- Answer phone calls from patients and other medical provider offices.
- Schedule appointments and answer patient questions.
- Prepare medical records in the EMR.
- Assist with procedure scheduling.
- Arrange for MRIs, CTs, audiograms, and lab work.
**Patient Records Management:**
- Maintain accurate and current patient records within the EMR system.
- Uphold patient confidentiality and ensure compliance with HIPAA and OSHA regulations.
- Coordinate and complete requisite paperwork for patient referrals.
**Qualifications:**
- A high school diploma or its equivalent is required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program is preferred, though not mandatory.
- Prior experience in a medical office, particularly within an ENT or similar specialty, is advantageous.
- Proficiency in utilizing EMR systems is preferred, although training will be provided.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask are essential.
- Familiarity with medical terminology, especially pertaining to ENT, is beneficial but not required.
- Capability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage stressful situations with composure.
- A collaborative disposition and a willingness to work as part of a team to deliver an exceptional patient experience.
**Physical Requirements:**
- Capacity to stand and walk for extended durations.
- Manual dexterity necessary for handling instruments and medical equipment.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and assist in moving patients and medical supplies as necessary.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
**Working Conditions:**
- The position is conducted in a clinical environment with exposure to infectious diseases and biohazardous materials; adherence to safety protocols is imperative.
- Occasional overtime may be required.
