Summary
Performs moderately complex (journey-level) patient care work. Work involves monitoring patient conditions and providing assistance to medical staff in administering therapeutic programs. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Functions
- Monitors, observes, records, and reports changes in patients’ conditions.
- Takes and records patients’ vital signs.
- Sets up and prepares materials and equipment for therapeutic activities.
- Assist with phlebotomy, swabbing, and urine collection.
- Clean rooms between patients and at end of day.
- Assist with patient callback.
- Enter labs and complete labeling in a timely manner
- Pack send-out labs daily.
- Maintains patient records.
- Maintains and evaluates supply levels.
- Ensures clinic common areas and rooms are stocked.
- Orders supplies when stocks run low.
- Provides assistance to medical staff in conducting patient examinations.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Qualifications
Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional one year of experience in healthcare/patient care work. Completion of an accredited medical assistant program and certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) may substitute for work experience requirement.
Physical Exam Required
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of patient care and of customer service principles.
- Skill in the operation of therapeutic equipment and other tools used in patient care, and in the use of a computer and applicable software.
- Ability to plan, assess, and provide patient care; and to communicate effectively.
- Frequently lift up to 10 pounds;
- Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds;
- Frequently carry up to 25 pounds;
- Occasionally stand and bend during shift;
- Frequently walk during the shift;
- Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees;
- Frequently rotate the upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing;
- Place arms above, at or below shoulder height.
