Summary of Position


Certified Medical Assistants are important members of the Roanoke Chowan Community Health Center (RCCHC) Care Teams. Medical Assistants are responsible for delivering excellent, high-touch, primary care, and coordinating a patient centered care experience. The Medical Assistant role requires high levels of flexibility, energy, attention to detail, and problem-solving. Medical Assistants will work closely and collaboratively with their teammates to greet and room RCCHC patients. S/he will be expected to assist in assessing patient’s health conditions, including performing routine diagnostic testing during appointments. The Certified Medical Assistant must be able to maintain a positive working relationship with all levels of RCCHC personnel and patients.

Minimum Qualifications


  • 1+ years in Medical Assistant role
  • Excellent organizational, leadership, verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple tasks and priorities in order to meet deadlines


Education
:

  • High school diploma/GED required


Experience
:

  • Experience in primary care providing care for all patient populations preferred


Certification(s)/Licensure
:

  • Medical Assistant credential, certification or registration required
  • BLS certification required


Knowledge:

  • Knowledge and thorough understanding of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC’s) in regard to the Federal 330 Public Health Service Act
  • Knowledge of thorough understanding of the 340B program
  • Knowledge of computer systems and applications.

Essential Functions


  • Electronic health record proficiency
  • Administration of medication by injection
  • Phlebotomy competency
  • Verifies patient information by interviewing patient, recording medical history, and confirming purpose of visit
  • Prepares patient for examination by performing preliminary physician test; taking blood pressure, weight, and temperature; and reporting patient history summary
  • Demonstrates problem-solving skills, accountability, and a flexible, positive attitude.
  • Accurately execute technical procedure when ordered such as EKG’s, drawing blood, obtaining and preparing laboratory specimens
  • Maintain proper storage and handling of equipment, supplies, and medications
  • Maintain a clean and orderly clinical working atmosphere; adequately prepare exam rooms and properly equip laboratory
  • Work with patients and family in giving accurate, understandable instructions in diet, special care procedures, medication, patient education
  • Participate as an active member of the RCCHC team
  • Maintain compliance with workflows, policies and procedures as well as other activities to support Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) model of care and accreditation
