Medical Billing Associate

Florida Retina Specialists is looking for a medical billing associate to join our top-notch team of professionals. We have two talented, caring, and ethical, Doctors and two offices located in Merritt Island and Viera. We have a cohesive team that works closely toward a common goal: improving vision and quality of life for our patients.

Basic Function: Works closely with billing manager and all billing department functions. Responsible for accounts receivable and related computer systems.

Responsibilities

*Processing electronic and paper claims *Applying payments from patients & insurance *Working denials and appeals *Getting authorizations for procedures and surgeries *Responsible for enforcing credit and collection policies with patients. *Reviewing unbilled/unpaid reports and working the claims *Coordinates efforts with surgery scheduling to inform patients about financial responsibility. Set up payment plans or obtain financial assistance for patients as needed *Assist billing manager in collection of all accounts receivable for the practice, maintaining a collection ratio of at least 95% of collectible monies. *Review and sign off on all requests for refunds and credits before they are submitted to A/P staff *Stay up-to-date on coding updates and communications from payors and professional resources. Build and maintain professional relations with third party payors and use them as resources as appropriate. * Handle billing questions from patients. * Acts as a liaison to the rest of the office staff regarding billing and insurance functions in the office. Monitors front desk processing and clinical documentation and advises appropriate supervisor of problem areas * Updating of Fee schedules * Perform other tasks as requested by the Physicians and Practice Administrator

Qualifications

*Completion from a medical coding course and/or AAPC certificate *Three to five year’s experience in medical billing, preferably in ophthalmology. Extensive knowledge of Medicare and other third-party reimbursement procedures, ICD-10 and CPT coding. Knowledge of ICD-10 coding *Attention to detail and accurate working knowledge *Ophthalmology and/or Retina coding experience is preferred
