Medical Billing Specialist

Our busy cardiology practice is currently seeking a medical billing specialist. We are looking for a candidate who is experienced in billing, specifically in the areas of follow-up, claim denials and aging. A candidate who is self-motivated and works well as part of a team are extremely important. Position Summary

The Medical Biller (A/R & Denials Specialist) is responsible for managing the full billing cycle, with a strong focus on accounts receivable follow-up, denial resolution, and payment posting. This role ensures timely reimbursement from insurance companies and patients by identifying, correcting, and preventing claim denials and underpayments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and process insurance claims for accuracy and compliance with payer requirements.
  • Follow up on unpaid and denied claims through phone calls, payer portals, and written appeals.
  • Analyze denial trends and work with management to prevent recurring issues.
  • Post insurance and patient payments accurately and reconcile accounts.
  • Communicate with insurance companies, patients, and internal teams to resolve billing issues.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of payer policies, CPT/ICD-10 coding, and billing regulations.
  • Generate and review A/R aging reports to ensure timely collections.
  • Document all account activity and maintain organized, compliant records.

Qualifications

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Associate’s degree or certification in medical billing/coding (e.g., CPC, CPB, CMRS).
  • 2+ years of experience in medical billing with emphasis on A/R follow-up and denial management.
  • Strong understanding of EOBs, ERA postings, and payer claim adjudication processes.
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.50 - $21.00 per hour
