Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens is seeking enthusiastic and responsible camp counselors for our seasonal, nature summer day camp. Working closely with Bartlett Educators, counselors support daily programming and help deliver high-quality outdoor experiences centered on nature exploration, environmental stewardship, STEAM learning, and fun. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about plants, animals, and the natural world and who enjoy working with children in an outdoor, hands-on learning environment.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, organization, and implementation of daily camp activities and lessons.
- Actively supervise campers at all times to ensure their safety, well-being, and positive camp experience.
- Actively engage with campers by asking questions, encouraging curiosity, and supporting learning through exploration and play.
- Lead small groups of campers during activities, hikes, games, and nature-based lessons.
- Foster an inclusive, respectful, and encouraging environment for campers and fellow staff.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, and behavior in accordance with camp policies.
- Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating enthusiasm, professionalism, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
- Monitor camp equipment, materials, and facilities; ensure proper use and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly to the Head Counselor or Camp Director.
- Understand and follow all emergency procedures and safety guidelines associated with the camp program.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 16 years of age and have completed junior year of high school.
- Prior experience working with children (camp, school, childcare, or similar settings) preferred.
- Demonstrated interest in nature, plants, animals, outdoor education, or environmental science.
- Ability to lead, organize, and participate in group activities, games, and crafts.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to remain positive, flexible, and energetic in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
- Fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.
- Must be available to attend camp training beginning the week of June 15 and work through August 17.
- Must be available 8:30 am to 3:00 pm, and occasionally 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to actively participate in all camp activities, including hiking, outdoor exploration, gardening, physical games, and arts and crafts.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in varying weather conditions.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience
