Whānau Āwhina Plunket is the largest service in Aotearoa supporting the health and wellbeing of tamariki under-five and their whānau.
We have an important role to play in supporting wellness in our communities, we are now entering into an exciting new phase where a Nurse Practitioner Consultant to help shape the future of advanced nursing practice within Whānau Āwhina Plunket to support existing pilots and review and enhance our existing services such as our Well Child checks and 24/7 telehealthcare via PlunketLine
This is a 0.6FTE position, fixed term until 30 June 2026.
This role can be based anywhere in Aotearoa, but given our spread across the motu, there will be a requirement to travel occasionally.
Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
Reporting to our Chief Nurse, you will combine your advanced clinical skills clinical and strategic thinking to deliver equitable, whānau centric outcomes for tamariki and their whānau.

In this role, you’ll:
- Deliver hands on mentoring and clinical leadership across two existing pilots: Registered Nurse Prescribing in Community Health (RNPCH) programme and national immunisation service
- Develop and embed advanced practice nursing roles into our organisation.
- Provide governance steering, strategic advice and thought leadership on advanced practice policy

You’ll be an experienced Nurse Practitioner with a passion for child and whānau wellbeing, and a ability to influence system and structural change and the confidence to navigate complex clinical governance environments and established organisations.
To be successful, you will:
- Have the right to work in Aotearoa
- hold a current NZ Nursing Council Annual Practising Certificate with Nurse Practitioner endorsement
- Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing nurses pursuing advanced practice roles
- Strong understanding of te ao Māori and tikanga, and a deep commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and have considerations about equity
- Highly developed communication and relationship skills to engage effectively with clinicians, educators, and sector partners
