Optometric Technician / Receptionist

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optometric Technician / Receptionist to join our team. This dual-role position involves providing exceptional patient care while managing front desk responsibilities in a fast-paced optometry clinic. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in medical office procedures, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping patients with their vision needs.

Duties

• Assist with patient intake, including gathering medical history and vital signs.
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality.
• Conduct preliminary eye exams and tests using various equipment.
• Maintain aseptic techniques during all patient interactions and procedures.
• Manage medical records and documentation accurately within EMR systems.
• Provide optical assistance, including frame selection and retail sales support.
• Handle front desk duties such as scheduling appointments, answering phones, and managing patient inquiries.
• Collaborate with the optometrist to ensure smooth clinic operations and patient flow.
• Educate patients on eye health, treatment options, and proper eyewear care.
• Support billing and coding processes as needed.

Skills

• Strong patient care skills with an emphasis on empathy and communication.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic ophthalmology concepts.
• Experience with EMR systems.
• Retail experience with an understanding of retail math for optical sales.
• Proficient in handling medical records and understanding medical billing/coding processes.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment while managing multiple tasks efficiently.
• Previous experience in a clinical setting is advantageous.
