Job Description: WNNB is seeking a dynamic, compassionate, experienced, and self-driven Licensed Paralegal to join our team. Reporting to the Nihkanatpat, the successful candidate will work closely with our external Legal Team and will support day to day legal matters, case management, and relationship-building within Wolastoqey communities and with key stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

· Liaise with our external legal team on matters pertaining to the Wolastoqey Nation in New Brunswick

· Conduct legal research, including statutes, case law, and precedents

· Draft legal documents such as letters, contracts, pleadings, etc

· Manage case files, court deadlines, and key documentation

· Assist in legal preparation by compiling all materials necessary when needed

· Build and maintain positive relationships with Wolastoqey communities, elders, and leadership

· Develop strong internal relationships with staff, Senior Management and Board Members

· Compile data and draft content for annual and other reports

· Ensure document tracking and reporting requirements

· Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, and directives

Required Qualifications

  • Licensed Paralegal in good standing with the Law Society of New Brunswick
  • 3–5 years of relevant legal experience
  • Demonstrated passion for justice and Indigenous rights
  • Excellent legal problem-solving and analytical thinking
  • Understanding of Indigenous cultures, issues, and community organizations
  • Ability to create a culturally safe and respectful environment
  • Exceptional oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, interdisciplinary, team-based settings
  • Strong project, case, and time management skills
  • High proficiency with relevant software, computers, and emerging technologies
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and be willing to travel

Desirable Skills & Attributes

  • Familiarity with Wolastoqey culture and communities
  • Experience working directly with Indigenous community members, elders, and leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Commitment to confidentiality, trust-building, and culturally sensitive communication

This position requires a high degree of confidentiality. The ability to produce a clear criminal record check will be required by the successful candidate. Applicants may not be holders of elected political office.
