Job Description: Mindoro Biochar Production Plant

Position: Plant Operator / Supervisor
Location: Mindoro, Philippines
Reporting to: Global Lead - Carbon Projects
Organization: Alcom Carbon Markets Philippines, Inc.

Overview

The Mindoro Biochar Production Plant is Alcom’s (HQ in Singapore with offices in 3 global offices) newest facility under its national program for carbon removal, renewable energy, and sustainable agriculture. The plant converts local agricultural residues into high-quality biochar through advanced pyrolysis, contributing to carbon sequestration and improved soil health in partnership with local government and farming communities. We are supported by GGGI Philippines, Climate Change Commission in the Office of the President of the Philippines. This production facility is Mindoro's first biochar production facility and the first in the cluster of 3 more upcoming facilities. This role is ideal for a hands-on, team oriented and willing candidate. As we grow this role will allow you to have the chance of supporting commissioning of the 10+ production facilities planned till 2030.

Key Responsibilities

1. Plant Operations

  • Operate and monitor pyrolysis systems, biomass feeding units, and gas cleaning sections.
  • Manage start-up, shutdown, and continuous operation according to standard procedures.
  • Record daily process data (temperature, feed rate, pressure, biochar output, oil yield, etc.).
  • Develop and maintain worker rooster.
  • Complete administrative work for the Head Office based in Manila.

2. Quality and Maintenance

  • Ensure consistent production of high-quality biochar in compliance with Puro.earth and Alcom standards.
  • Conduct basic maintenance and cleaning of equipment, report any technical issues promptly.
  • Support calibration, safety checks, and scheduled preventive maintenance.

3. Material Handling & Logistics

  • Supervise receipt, drying, and storage of agricultural feedstock (e.g., rice husk, coconut shells).
  • Coordinate packing, weighing, and dispatch of biochar.
  • Maintain stock and inventory records.

4. Safety and Environmental Compliance

  • Follow all site safety protocols and environmental management guidelines.
  • Ensure emission and waste handling systems are functioning properly.
  • Participate in safety drills and plant audits.

5. Reporting & Coordination

  • Submit daily and weekly operational reports to the Project Manager.
  • Work closely with technical and R&D teams during pilot trials and performance evaluations.
  • Assist visiting engineers, researchers, or institutional partners during site assessments.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Agricultural, or Environmental Engineering (or related technical field).
  • Experience in process plant operation, preferably in biomass, energy, or agri-industrial sectors, is desirable but not mandatory
  • Understanding of thermochemical processes or pyrolysis technology preferred.
  • Strong attention to safety, documentation, and operational discipline.
  • Willing to be based full-time at the Mindoro plant site.
