This 18-month fixed term contract offers the opportunity to contribute to the delivery of critical infrastructure projects that help keep regional communities connected and moving. This role provides the chance to take ownership of meaningful, complex work while working collaboratively to improve network reliability and safety.
About the role
You’ll play a key role in planning and delivering Major Periodic Maintenance projects within the Annual Works Plan, managing projects from initiation through to close-out. This role brings together strategic planning and hands-on delivery, including contractor management, quality assurance, stakeholder engagement, and risk management across a live operational network.
The position involves time on site during key project stages, including occupations, with some travel, night works, and occasional weekend shifts required throughout the year. We aim to plan works in advance and provide as much notice and support as possible for these requirements.
Key accountabilities include:
- Lead end-to-end delivery of infrastructure projects to scope, budget and schedule.
- Manage contractors and ensure alignment with project and safety requirements.
- Oversee quality assurance and compliance with standards and governance frameworks.
- Identify, assess and manage project risks across the full lifecycle.
- Develop and maintain project plans, forecasts and reporting.
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to support successful outcomes.
- Provide leadership, guidance and development to project engineers.
- Ensure safe project delivery and adherence to OH&S and environmental standards.
About you
We’re seeking a capable Project Manager who leads with confidence, empathy, and collaboration, builds trusted relationships, and delivers complex projects in a structured environment. You approach challenges thoughtfully, make sound decisions, foster a supportive and inclusive environment where people feel valued and able to contribute.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Demonstrated experience delivering complex infrastructure or engineering projects.
- Strong contractor management experience
- Proven capability in quality assurance and project governance
- Solid experience managing project risk and resolving issues proactively
- Experience leading and developing small to medium-sized teams
- Effective communicator who builds trust with diverse stakeholders
- Willingness to travel and work on site during occupations when required
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Civil, track, civil structures or structures)
- White card
- Valid drivers license
Desirable
- Formal qualifications in project management at a vocational or tertiary education level are desirable.
- Experience in rail, civil, or related infrastructure environments (highly advantageous)
