Job Overview
We are top paying in the industry! This position is Monday-Friday dayshift! We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented MDS Coordinator to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will play a vital role in managing and coordinating the Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessments, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards such as NCQA and Medicare requirements. This position offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic clinical environment, supporting patient care and documentation accuracy across various settings including inpatient, outpatient, nursing homes, and hospice care. Experience with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner, Athenahealth, and eClinicalWorks is preferred, along with a strong foundation in medical terminology, coding, and documentation review.
Duties
- Coordinate and facilitate comprehensive MDS assessments for patients in various care settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and long-term care facilities.
- Review medical records and clinical documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support discharge planning, case management, and utilization review processes.
- Ensure compliance with CMS, NCQA standards, and other regulatory requirements related to Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care programs.
- Utilize EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner, Athenahealth, or eClinicalWorks for documentation management and data entry.
- Perform ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, CPT coding, DRG assignment, and other medical coding tasks to support accurate reimbursement processes.
- Conduct clinical documentation improvement initiatives to enhance the quality of patient records.
- Assist in the development of clinical reports related to utilization management and health information management.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10/ICD-9/ICD coding systems along with CPT coding procedures preferred.
- Familiarity with Medicare regulations, NCQA standards, DRG assignment, and utilization review processes.
- Background in managed care settings including hospital experience (Level I & II trauma centers), inpatient/outpatient facilities, nursing homes (including nursing home experience), PICU or OR experience preferred.
- Proficiency in medical documentation review and clinical documentation improvement strategies.
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology knowledge relevant to patient care.
- Ability to navigate EMR/EHR systems such as eClinicalWorks or Meditech efficiently.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation review and case management activities.
- Knowledge of HIPAA compliance standards related to medical records confidentiality and security.
