About the Role:

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Research Associate / Research Fellow to join the Curtin School of Allied Health. This position will play a key role in delivering a program of research aligned with improving the lives and services for people living with young onset dementia.

Working closely with Associate Professor Elissa Burton, you will contribute to high-quality, nationally competitive research, with a focus on systematic reviews, guideline development, qualitative research, and the completion of associated ethics applications. This role is ideal for an emerging academic seeking to grow their research profile and contribute meaningfully to impactful, real-world health research.

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Undertake high-quality and nationally competitive research within the project focus area.
  • Lead and contribute to systematic reviews and evidence-based guideline development.
  • Conduct and analyse qualitative research, including interview/focus group data.
  • Prepare and submit human research ethics applications.
  • Disseminate research findings through publications, conferences, and workshops.
  • Contribute to supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students.
  • Engage in academic service and contribute to a collegial, inclusive research culture.
  • Build and foster relationships with collaborators, industry partners, and the wider community.
Selection Criteria:
  • A doctoral qualification (PhD) in a relevant discipline (e.g. Exercise, Young Onset Dementia, Dementia, Public Health).
  • Demonstrated record of high-quality research outputs, consistent with career stage (including first author publications).
  • Evidence of research impact through publications, citations, reviews, or other esteem measures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-cultural environment.
  • Commitment to University policies, procedures, and legislative requirements
Desirable
  • Experience in systematic reviews and/or guideline development, particularly physical activity or dementia.
  • Experience in qualitative research design, data collection, and analysis.
  • Experience supervising HDR students.
  • Evidence of successful competitive grant applications.
Role Requirements:
  • As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role.
  • This is a part-time role, 2 days per week. Preferred working days are between Wednesday - Friday.
