Retail Assistant Store Manager

Reports To: Store Manager

Supervises: Department Managers & Sales Associates

General Purpose of Position: As part of the management team, an Assistant Manager works directly with the Store Manager to ensure the responsibilities of day-to-day management and operations of the retail store are being met. The Assistant Manager helps with implementing strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales, and increase profitability. The Assistant Manager is responsible for opening and closing the store when the Store Manager is not present. An Assistant Manager is a leader and must have the ability to make informative decisions, solve problems in a critical and diligent manner, and effectively manage the store when the Store Manager is not present.

Responsibilities/Duties

- Oversee the recruitment and hiring process, including posting job openings, reviewing resumes, conducting interviews, and making job offers.
- Manage employee onboarding and orientation programs to ensure a smooth transition for new hires.
- Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
- Develop and implement HR policies and procedures to promote a positive work environment and ensure legal compliance.
- Coordinate employee training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
- Handle employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance management.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in HR management.

  • Responsible for ensuring that the highest level of customer service is met through thorough training and inspiration to sales associates and management staff.
  • Ensures customer needs are met, complaints are resolved, and service is quick and efficient.
  • Assists with orientation, training, coaching, and developing sales associates in execution of daily tasks and sales.
  • Oversees compliance of sales associates with established company policies and standards.
  • Keeps sales associates on task with the daily duties delegated by managers.
  • Ensures safekeeping of all TYLER’S property.
  • Maintains store appearance and product presentation to company standards.
  • Communicates with the Store Manager and Merchandiser to arrange, organize, and display new merchandise on the sales floor.
  • Upholds specific department goals, cleanliness, organization, aesthetic appeal, and inventory management.
  • Ensure that merchandise is stored, handled, and displayed in accordance with Tyler’s policies, strategies, and procedures.
  • Works with merchandiser and backroom manager to maintain product flow.
  • Provides support to sales associates during peak periods or when scheduling conflicts arise.
  • Processes sales transactions, returns, and special orders, and ensures that all related documentation is accurate and complete.
  • Leads and directs the work of others.
  • Executes merchandising plans.
  • Handles inventory discrepancies as soon as possible.
  • Works to prevent damage and theft of merchandise.
  • Assists in management of store operations.
  • Keeps the Store Manager well informed of activities and significant issues.
  • Locks and secures the store.

  • Ability to communicate in a clear, concise, understandable manner, and listen attentively to others, understand material, and provide instructions to sales associates.
  • Ability to operate all equipment necessary to perform the job.

Requirements

  • Available to work a full-time schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must have at least 3 years of high volume assistant manager experience or 3 years of low volume store manager experience.
  • Availability to work the hours necessary to open and/or close the store.
  • Self-motivator with strong interpersonal, communication, organization and follow-through skills.
  • Desirable qualities should include competitiveness, passion for retail as a career, a committed and positive attitude, leadership abilities, and are able to motivate a team.

We have continued to build stores in the Woodlands and Ft. Worth with new doors planned for next year.
