About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Robotics Engineer with a strong background in mechatronics, mechanical design, and hardware development to join our growing team. You will play a key role in designing, building, and validating robotic structures, rigs, and data-collection setups used for advanced AI and robotics research.
This is a highly practical, engineering-heavy role suited for someone who enjoys both designing in CAD and building/testing hardware in real life. You will work closely with robot operators, software engineers, and researchers to bring new robotic data-collection workflows to life.
Key ResponsibilitiesMechanical & Mechatronics Design
- Design robotic fixtures, jigs, test rigs, and mechanical systems using professional CAD tools (SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).
- Develop electromechanical assemblies, linkages, enclosures, mounts, and robot-compatible structures.
- Perform design-for-manufacturing (DFM), tolerance analysis, and material selection for prototypes and production.
Hardware Fabrication & Integration
- Build and assemble robotic structures: machining, fabrication, laser cutting, 3D printing, wiring, and basic electronics.
- Integrate motors, sensors, controllers, cameras, and other hardware into custom setups.
- Work with external vendors or workshops for fabrication, machining, or manufacturing requests.
Robot Data Collection Setup Development
- Design and build setups for robot data collection, teleoperation, and testing.
- Test, validate, and troubleshoot mechanical and electromechanical systems.
- Improve the reliability, safety, and usability of all setups.
Technical Training & Documentation
- Train robot operators on how to use the designed setups safely and effectively.
- Create clear documentation, assembly guides, wiring diagrams, and SOPs.
Software & Robotics (Bonus Skills)
- Experience with ROS/ROS2, Linux, Python, or C++ is a strong advantage.
- Ability to integrate hardware with basic control code or scripts.
- Understanding of robotic perception, control, or teleoperation is beneficial.
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics, or a related discipline.
- Strong skills in 3D CAD design and mechanical drafting.
- Practical hands-on experience with building mechanical systems (assembly, fabrication, testing).
- Knowledge of motors, sensors, actuators, and electromechanical systems.
- Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and hardware issues systematically.
- Comfortable working in workshop/lab environments
Preferred Experiences
- Experience with ROS / ROS2, Linux-based systems, or hardware-control programming
- Experience with manufacturing processes (3D printing, CNC machining, sheet metal, injection molding)
- Experience in robotics testing, teleoperation, or data collection workflows
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced R&D environment
Why Join Cortex
- Work directly on the frontier of physical AI — where human action and robotic intelligence converge
- Your contribution will help train world and robotics foundation models used by leading labs and companies
- Collaborate with a high-energy and passionate engineers and roboticists
- Hands-on experience with state-of-the-art teleoperation rigs, VR capture systems and multi-sensor robots
