About Us

We are a new vibrant Irish-language bookshop and café dedicated to promoting literature, culture, and community through Gaeilge. We provide a welcoming space for book lovers, coffee enthusiasts, and learners/speakers of Irish to gather, browse, and connect.

Role Overview

We are seeking an enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and customer-focused individual with a strong command of the Irish language to join our team. This role combines bookselling expertise with barista responsibilities, making it ideal for someone passionate about literature and café culture.

Key Requirements

  • Proficient level of Irish (spoken and written) – essential
  • Barista training and experience – essential
  • A genuine love of books and reading - essential
  • Strong knowledge of current titles, publishing trends, and the Irish and international book market
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work flexibly, including evenings and weekends
  • Skills in social media posting

Key Responsibilities

Bookselling & Customer Service

  • Assist customers in Irish (and English where appropriate) with book recommendations and enquiries
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new releases, bestsellers, and Irish-language publications
  • Curate displays and recommend titles based on customer interests
  • Process sales and manage stock, including ordering, receiving, and shelving books
  • Support and promote Irish-language literature and authors

Café & Barista Duties

  • Prepare and serve high-quality coffee, teas, and light refreshments
  • Ensure excellent customer service in the café area
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in line with food safety regulations
  • Manage orders, handle payments, and operate the till system

Events & Community Engagement

  • Assist in organising and running evening events, such as book launches, readings, workshops, and Irish-language conversation circles
  • Set up and clean down event spaces
  • Engage with customers and foster a welcoming, inclusive community atmosphere

General Duties

  • Open and close the premises as required
  • Handle deliveries and manage inventory
  • Maintain a clean, organised, and inviting shop environment
  • Support social media or promotional activities where needed
  • Undertake any other duties as required to support the smooth running of the business

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: From €14.50 per hour

Expected hours: No less than 20 per week

Work Location: In person
