About the role

The role of the Senior Pou Tiaki is to provide our community with positive experiences and be a responsive customer-centric point of contact for Museum visitors, customers and clients at a professional level. You will accomplish this by:

  • Providing a warm, welcoming presence and ensuring that all visitors to the Museum receive relevant information about our exhibitions, programmes and facilities so they get the most from their visit
  • Being knowledgeable about the products we sell and confidently deliver excellent customer service in our retail shop. The Dowse Shop stocks many local artists and it's your job to sell these amazing products!
  • Working closely with our Resource & Functions Coordinator to ensure the smooth delivery of venue hire events and functions at The Dowse. You will be the person ensuring that the room is set up appropriately and the runsheets are followed to a "T".
  • Assisting our colleagues with the set up and support of public programmes, special Museum events like openings and workshops.

About You

We are looking for a resourceful, resilient and adaptable individual with supervisory experience in a public facing and/or retail environment.

You will work closely with the Front of House Team Leader to provide retail operational support including processing orders, merchandising/display, restocking and sales. You will be familiar with Shopify or similar platform and maintain the online webstore's stock levels, ensuring that all online orders are processed accurately and efficiently.

You will work closely with our Resource & Functions Coordinator to ensure that we consistently meet or exceed client's expectations during their bookings and events.

To succeed in this role: You must be a clear communicator and active listener with a passion for excellent customer service. You should enjoy creating a positive environment for others and thrive on working as part of a team with strong values and clear objectives. You will be able to be on your feet the majority of the day and be able to lift and move furniture and events equipment. You need to be computer competent as you will use our retail POS system and venue management system. LCQ and duty managers certifications are highly desirable qualifications. Your normal hours of work will be Wednesday - Sunday 9.45 - 5.15pm. 35 hours per week minimum.

The Dowse team is close-knit, skilled and enthusiastic. Your work will be diverse, and we work hard to provide good career and skill development opportunities for our staff. A familiarity or passion for art is a plus, but we also offer many opportunities to learn more about the exhibitions we have on view at our museums.
